The Museum continued to function as an organization formed for charitable, educational purposes, and operates as a wildlife museum that contains displays of exotic animal mounts and a "Sensory SafariX created for educating blind and physically handicapped children as well as adults about wild animals from around the world.
For the 2019 year, the Bandera Natural History Museum continued to development new programs and improve existing programs for visitors. As a result of our School Field Trip Program, which is designed to complement the curriculum of different grade levels in accordance with the State of Texas testing system, the museum hosted 93 special-needs students, 721 field trip students, other student groups totaling 193, and 2,270 under-age 12 youth, for a total of 3,277 youth.The Museum assisted other local non-profit organizations with their funraising efforts by donating 42 admission tickets to the Bandera Natural History Museum.During 2019, the Museum broke ground on a 4,000 square foot addition that will house a "New Spain" 17th and 18th Century Vice Regal art collection that will be donated to the museum when the facility is finished some time in 2020. We anticipate a 30% increase in attendance beginning in 2021.
The Museum offers a Sensory Safari, which offers an experience for youth and adults with sight disabilities. These individuals are allowed to explore the animals with their hands while the animal is being described.
