Some Other Place exists to provide emergency services to indigent or catastrophe-stricken families.
Emergency services provided food, shelter, utility assistance, housing assistance, medication assistance, clothing, household/other in-kind assistance, special programs assistance, and/or referral assistance. Over 2,975 families, representing more than 5,171 individuals, received emergency services. The Some Other Place home delivered meal program currently has 230 homebound individuals on the program based on their needs. The Back to School Program served 385 families representing 950+ children served with new school clothing, supplies & backpacks. Additional children were served with school supplies following the actual BTS distribution. The Thanksgiving store provided traditional Thanksgiving foods to 625 families, representing an estimated 2,000 individuals. The Thanksgiving Day meal provided over 200 meals served on site and 200 meals home delivered by over 100 volunteers. The Nutrition Center served 101,878 meals during the year, both on-site and home-delivered. Henry's Place, which provides a brief respite from the streets for the homeless, received more than 9,935 visits. The Giving Tree Christmas program served 1,350 children, 230 home delivered meals, and 1,000 nursing home residents. The Christmas Day meal served over 200 meals on site and 200 meals were home delivered by Temple Emanuel and other volunteers. SOP received (as best we could keep count) 9,823 phone calls for assistance in 2019. All of these services are made possible with support from the local community.
