The mission of Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Houston/Galveston, Inc. (RMHCGHG) is to create, find and support programs that directly benefit children primarily in the areas of health and education.
Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Houston/Galveston, Inc. helps support programs that build strong minds, strong bodies and a safe, supportive place to grow. Our programs reach out to thousands of children in the Greater Houston/Galveston area.
Our Ronald McDonald Care Mobile (RMCM) Program is comprised of two state-of-the-art mobile clinics: a pediatric urgent care clinic and a pediatric dental clinic. The Ronald McDonald Care Mobile Clinics focus on the most medically under-served areas of our community. Children receive quality health care free of charge, and services include: vaccines, annual physicals, urgent care, hearing/vision screenings, dental screenings, fluoride treatments, cavity restoration, and many other standard medical and dental procedures. Operated in partnership with Texas Children's Hospital, RMCM Medical had 4,888 visits in 2019, providing services that included 4,753 vaccinations and 596 other procedures and exams. Operated in partnership with UT Health School of Dentistry, RMCM Dental had 1,273 visits in 2019, providing 2,997 procedures at a cost savings of $337,016 to the patients.
RMHCGHG provides grants to Ronald McDonald House of Houston and Ronald McDonald House of Galveston, which provides temporary lodging, meals and other support to children and their families when they must travel long distances to access high quality medical care. These houses help families stay close to their ill or injured child during their hospital stay. The Ronald McDonald Houses also provide families with emotional and physical comfort and increase the caregivers ability to spend more time with their child, interact with their clinical care team and participate in critical medical care decisions.
Ronald McDonald C.H.E.E.R! (Children's Health Education Enrichment Resource) Rooms provide a fun, colorful, welcoming environment and an educational place for children to wait while their mothers receive prenatal care at UTMB Regional Maternal and Child Health Program Clinics. The non-clinical staff keep children occupied with age-appropriate mini-lessons in health, wellness & literacy allowing mothers to focus their attention on the health care providers giving them critical information about their own health and the health of their unborn child. There are four RM C.H.E.E.R! Rooms located in Katy, Conroe, Pasadena, and Pearland, Texas. In 2019, 2,090 children visited the C.H.E.E.R! Rooms.
