THE UNITED WAY OF SOUTHERN CAMERON COUNTY'S MISSION IS TO "IMPROVE LIVES BY MOBILIZING THE CARING POWER OF COMMUNITIES TO ADVANCE THE COMMON GOOD".

THE APPROACH OFTEN INVOLVES THE DIRECT OVERSIGHT OF A PROGRAM INITIATED AND MANAGED BY THE UNITED WAY OR BY PROVIDING FUNDS IN THE FORM OF A GRANT TO OTHER ORGANIZATIONS THAT MEET THE INITIATIVE'S OBJECTIVE. CONTINUED ON SCHEDULE OTHE FOLLOWING ARE CURRENT PROGRAMS UNDER THIS INITIATIVE: SUCCESS BY 6, PARTNERS FOR POSTSECONDARY SUCCESS, FAMILY ENGAGEMENT FOR HIGH SCHOOL SUCCESS, PLAN FOR THIRD GRADE SUCCESS, AND FUNDED EDUCATION PARTNERS. NOTABLY, UNITED WAY'S PARTNERS FOR POSTSECONDARY SUCCESS PROGRAM WAS LARGELY FUNDED AND INITIATED FROM A GRANT AWARDED BY THE BILL AND MELINDA GATES FOUNDATION FOR 1.5MM, WHICH HAS LED TO THE CREATION OF THE COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP LABELED "ALL IN".
INCOME: THE UNITED WAY'S INCOME INITIATIVE PRIMARILY FOCUSES ON PROMOTING FINANCIAL STABILITY ALONG WITH FINANCIAL INDEPENDENCE. THE UNITED WAY HEADS AN ANNUAL PROGRAM CALLED THE "VOLUNTEER INCOME TAX ASSISTANCE" (VITA), FOR LOW INCOME FAMILIES IN THE COMMUNITY TO REDUCE THE COST OF INCOME TAX PREPARATION AS WELL AS PROMOTE THE AWARENESS OF TAX CREDITS THESE FAMILIES MAY BE ELIGIBLE FOR.
HEALTH: THE UNITED WAY WORKS TO IMPROVE THE HEALTH OF THOSE WITHIN THE COMMUNITY BY PROVIDING ACCESSIBILITY TO QUALITY HEALTH CARE, ALONG WITH THE PROMOTION OF PREVENTATIVE MEASURES SUCH AS IMPROVED HEALTH AND FITNESS. THE UNITED WAY PARTNERS WITH VARIOUS COMMUNITY PARTNERS BY PROVIDING GRANT FUNDS AND VOLUNTEER ASSISTANCE.
