Organizations Filed Purposes:
To cultivate healthy independent living for people with special needs through skills-based training and equine therapy, with a special focus on using horses that have been given sanctuary from difficult circumstances
Shelter and care of horses (including training) - During 2020 Camp Able cared for an average of 60 horses, most of which were donated to Camp Able due to injury, age, lack of available riders or financial distress of owners. Approximately one-half of these horses are suitable now, or will be in the future, for equine therapy. Shelter and care expenses include feed, pasture, fencing, stalls, veterinary care, farrier, trail maintenance, supplies, tack equipment and repair.
Day Camps - Therapeutic riding sessions and skills-based training sessions (e.g. swimming skills) for children with special needs, military veterans and people with normal orientation. The objective of the day camps is to promote self-sufficiency, as well as confidence, core balance, strength and life skills.
Nonresidential Camps - Due to public health concerns surrounding Covid-19, Camp Able had to substantially change the format of its commuting summer camps. Camp Able provided modified "drive-thru" camps for special needs children and their families who wanted to see, pet, and connect with their favorite horses.
