EDUCATION & PROMOTION OF CULTURAL FINE ARTS TO THE LOCAL COMMUNITIES
EXHIBITION OF INNOVATIVE CONTEMPORARY ART BY LOCAL EMERGING & MID-CAREER ARTISTS FOR THE PURPOSE OF PROMOTING THEIR WORK AND PROVIDING EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS INCLUDING A FORUM FOR NEW ART FORMS. FEATURED EXHIBITIONS CONSISTED OF: PRESA HOUSE CURATORIAL EXCHANGE, FROM A DISTANCE AND BACK, BOUND TO POP AND A STUDY OF LIFE. THESE EXHIBITIONS WERE ATTENDED OR VISITED BY APPROXIMATELY 15,000 PEOPLE. THE MEMBERS ONLY JURIED SHOW RAN DURING MAY, SHOWCASING ARTISTS FROM CORPUS CHRISTI AND SURROUNDING AREAS. IT WAS PARTICIPATED IN BY 578 PEOPLE. CONTEMPORARY ART MONTH WAS HELD DURING MARCH WITH OVER 300 ARTISTS PARTICIPATING ALONG WITH LOCAL ART ORGANIZATIONS AND COLLEGES. ARTWORK WAS INSTALLED IN BUSINESSES ALL OVER THE CITY TO PROMOTELOCAL ARTISTS. AN ESTIMATED 15,000 PEOPLE VIEWED THE ARTWORK.
CULTURAL EVENTS ARE HELD TO PROMOTE CULTURE THROUGH THE WORK OF LOCAL ARTISTS, MUSICIANS AND PERFORMERS AND TO MAKE IT ACCESSIBLE TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC. THE DIA DE LOS MUERTOS FESTIVAL HELD NOV 2ND IS AN OUTDOOR FESTIVAL THAT COVERED 10 CITY BLOCKS AND FEATURED DEMONSTRATIONS BY THE ART DEPARTMENTS OF LOCAL COLLEGES, AN ART EXHIBITION, EDUCATIONAL WORKSHOPS, AN ART EXPO WITH ARTS & CRAFT VENDORS, FOOD VENDORS AND MUSICIANS AND OTHER PERFORMERS. THE FESTIVAL WAS ATTENDED BY AN ESTIAMTED 35,000 PEOPLE.
EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS OFFER OPPORTUNITY TO ANYONE INTERESTED IN LEARNING ABOUT ART AS WELL AS THOSE TRYING TO IMPROVE THEIR ART SKILLS. THE PROGRAMS BRING HANDS-ON MULTI-DISCIPLINARY ART PROJECTS CLASSES IN MURAL ARTS, CULTURAL DANCE, DRAWING, PAINTING,AND PAPIER MACHE. GALLERY LECTURES, DEMONSTRATIONS AND WORKSHOPS ARE HELD THOUGHOUT THE YEAR BY EXHIBITING ARTISTS AND AVAILABLE TO ALL AGES. THE MURAL SUMMER PROGRAM RAN DURING JULY AND AUGUST AND WERE ATTENDED BY 80 STUDENTS AGES 12-18.
