ACT IS A NEW MODEL OF MINISTRY THAT USES THE JUSTICE SYSTEM TO EMPOWER INNER-CITY RESIDENTS TO FIGHT CRIME ON THEIR STREET WHILE SHARING WITH THEM THE HOPE OF THE GOSPEL.
USE THE LEGAL SYSTEM AND THE HOPE OF THE GOSPEL TO EMPOWER INNER-CITY RESIDENTS TO FIGHT CRIME.
ACT IS A SOCIAL JUSTICE NONPROFIT THAT USES THE JUSTICE SYSTEM TO EQUIP RESIDENTS TO MAKE THEIR NEIGHBORHOODS SAFER FOR THEIR FAMILIES. ACT'S MODEL PURSUES JUSTICE FOR THESE FAMILIES WHO LIVE IN CLOSE PROXIMITY TO HIGH-CRIME PROPERTIES BY BUILDING TRUST AND PAIRING THEM WITH TOP-RATED LAW FIRMS TO HOLD DRUG PROPERTY OWNERS ACCOUNTABLE FOR THE CRIMINAL ACTIVITY. CRUCIAL TO OUR MODEL ARE PARTNERSHIPS WITH NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATIONS, CHURCHES, AND NONPROFITS, AS WELL AS THE DALLAS POLICE DEPARTMENT, CITY ATTORNEY'S OFFICE, AND CODE COMPLIANCE.SINCE 2009, WE HAVE HELPED TO RESOLVE 172 HIGH-CRIME PROPERTIES ACROSS WEST DALLAS, SOUTH DALLAS, AND SOUTH OAK CLIFF. ACT AND OUR VOLUNTEER LAWYERS ALWAYS AIM FOR RECONCILIATION AND A NON-ADVERSARIAL RESOLUTION WITHIN A COMMUNITY--OF 172 TOTAL RESOLUTIONS TO DATE, WE HAVE ONLY HAD TO TAKE A CASE TO TRIAL FOUR TIMES--BUT IF A CASE CANNOT BE RESOLVED THROUGH NEGOTIATION OR SETTLEMENT, WE HAVE HAD A 100% SUCCESS RATE AT TRIAL. OUR MODEL EQUIPS COMMUNITY-BASED ASSETS TO DELIVER COMMUNITY-BASED RESULTS. THE NEIGHBORHOODS IN WHICH WE WORKED IN WEST DALLAS EXPERIENCED UP TO A 50% REDUCTION IN CRIME.IN 2019, ACT ADAPTED ITS TRADITIONAL MODEL FOR SCALING, EXPANDED OUR GEOGRAPHIC AREA IN SOUTH DALLAS, AND BEGAN WORKING IN SOUTH OAK CLIFF. THE ADAPTED-FOR-SCALING MODEL EXCEEDED EXPECTATIONS IN ITS FIRST YEAR, DELIVERING MORE RELATIONSHIPS, CASEWORK, AND MOMENTUM THAN ANTICIPATED FOR A TRANSITION YEAR. IN 2019, ACT, OUR CLIENTS, AND OUR VOLUNTEER ATTORNEYS RESOLVED 22 CRIME PROPERTIES IN WEST DALLAS, SOUTH DALLAS, AND SOUTH OAK CLIFF. ACT AND OUR CLIENTS RECEIVED OVER $1 MILLION IN PRO BONO LEGAL SERVICES FROM OUR PARTNER LAW FIRMS IN 2019.THE GOAL OF ACT'S MODEL IS TO BE A CATALYST, TO ENCOURAGE AND EQUIP RESIDENTS WITH THE TOOLS AND SUPPORT TO TAKE BACK THEIR STREETS. CRIME REDUCTION IS ONLY A PIECE OF A COMMUNITY'S TRANSFORMATION. EXPOSURE TO COMMUNITY VIOLENCE CAN HAVE LIFE-LONG EFFECTS ON NEARLY EVERY LEVEL OF A CHILD'S DEVELOPMENT, AND ACT HAS SPENT THE LAST DECADE EMPOWERING FAMILIES TO REMOVE THESE SOURCES OF THEIR CHILDREN'S TRAUMA SO THEY CAN CREATE PEACE AND HOPE IN THEIR SURROUNDINGS.
