Organizations Filed Purposes:
Domestic Workers Unite fights alongside migrant domestic workers in Lebanon to combat the abuses experienced under the kafala employment system so that the workers are compensated for forced labour and freed to go home.
In the last quarter of 2019, Lebanon experienced an economic crisis which exacerbated the already difficult and horrific circumstances for migrant domestic workers. Domestic Workers Unite took on approximately 125 cases in that time for workers experiencing everything from sexual violence to non-payment of salary. For many of these cases, we were able to negotiate with their employers so that they were paid and sent home. Some of the other cases are ongoing to this day.
Through our online platform, thisislebanon.info, we advocate for migrant domestic workers in Lebanon, both in general and for the specific cases of specific workers.
