Engage and empower a community of advocates to advance a safe, beautiful, prosperous and proud community in Far East Dallas.
Leadership Building: One of our core strengths is identifying and building civic leaders who are capable of leading change within their own neighborhoods. Using decades of experience in community building, we accelerate the speed of change for new community leaders. We identify, train and coach community leaders so they can work collaboratively with their volunteers to solve their own problems. We also work with our area nonprofits, serving as the backbone organization in Far East Dallas. We provide ongoing support by guiding vision and strategy, raising funds, convening meetings, supporting aligned activities, establishing shared measurements, building public goodwill, communicating opportunities and results to constituents, advancing policy, and mobilizing resources. These services help our area nonprofits accelerated their ability to make a positive "collective impact" in the community. FRI works behind the scenes to ensure our partners are successful in fulfilling their missions.
Financial Services/Education: For the past 15 years we have provided support for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance and Financial Education Network Literacy Programs to 13,860 individuals and families, and have kept more than $24 MM in tax refunds in the community. 68% of our families are Hispanic, with 50% speaking Spanish at home, 14% are African American, 8% Asian, and 10% White. In 2019, we served 1,624 families and returned $2.9 MM to community residents.
Communication: FRI has 93,000 constituents, 2000 unique businesses, 50 apartment communities, 230 faith communities, and 37 neighborhood associations to keep informed. Multiple communication venues such as a semi-annual news magazine, 2 x per month electronic newsletter, direct mail, robo calls, and social media platforms reach our broad audience. Other venues include a winter and fall town hall meeting as well as Community Fairs.
