Our 20-lesson curriculum combines training for a 5K 3.1 miles running event with lessons that inspire girls to become independent thinkers, enhance their problem solving skills and make healthy decisions.
Our mission is to inspire girls in the 3rd through 8th grade to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running.
During the year ended 6/30/20 we served 1,277 girls. Using 550 volunteers meeting twice a week in small teams of 8-15 from 3rd to 5th grade, and separate groups from 6th to 8th grade, girls learned life skills through dynamic, conversation-based lessons and running games. The curriculum is designed to allow every girl to recognize her inner strength, make new friends, build confidence, and develop life skills that will help them as they move through adolescence and beyond. The season culminates with the Fall 5K and Spring 5K celebratory events that give them a tangible sense of goal achievement. During FY20 we hosted programming at 85 sites. The Fall 2019 5K had 683 community runners plus girls and coaches for a total of approximately 1,600 runners. The Spring 2020 5K was hosted virtually with 273 participants coaches, girls and family runners.
