Visual Art Scholastic Event (VASE) Program VASE recognizes exemplary student achievement in the visual arts by providing art students and programs a standard of excellence in which to achieve. VASE is the only art event of its kind in the nation. Students are provided the opportunity to bring art works created in their art classes to their regional event where they are interviewed by a certified juror who evaluates their work based on a standard based rubric and their understanding of the art process involved in the development of their artwork. In 2020 the Texas VASE hosted 28 regional high school events with 35,885 registered entries. 2,442 entries advanced to the state event. 150 artworks were granted exemplary status with the coveted Gold Seal award. Even though the 2020 State VASE Event was virtual, Texas VASE was still able to award 12 students scholarships based on their State Qualifying Artworks. In 2020, neither the Texas VASE Junior VASE program nor the VASE Texas TEAM (Texas Elementary Art Meet) could host events due to the COVID-19 pandemic, so all events were cancelled. Junior VASE and TEAM Events will resume in 2021. In 2020 the TX Art Education Foundation (TAEF) made the monetary scholarship payments for these TAEA VASE events. TAEF also makes the payments for professional development grants and scholarships awarded to TAEA members.
