Organizations Filed Purposes: The mission of Uptown Players is to present professional theater that meets a rising demand in the community for audiences to see their life experiences represented on stage. We offer diverse productions with contemporary and alternative lifestyle themes that explore complex and varied situations such as relationships, family, prejudice, and values. We present plays and musicals that challenge our audiences artistically, build cultural bridges, and strive to create greater positive public awareness and acceptance through the performing arts. There is no other theater group with this unique mission in the Dallas area.

Uptown Players offers equity membership candidacy (EMC) program weeks for local artists and stage managers desiring enough credit to join Actors Equity Association, the union for professional actors and stage managers. Due to the pandemic and global health crisiss, Uptown Players pivoted to filming productions and streaming archival video of past productions to patrons' homes. As a result, Uptown Players provided work for 9 professional (union) actors and 3 stage managers in a COVID safe film environment. During 2020, Uptown Players produced one live stage production, Broadway Our Way 2020, filmed two stage productions, Application Pending and Helen Holy's Heavenly Holiday Spectacular, and edited and streamed archival video of its 2014 production of Pageant The Musical. Uptown Players also provided free online content during the pandemic, including hosting an hour long episode of Stars in the House, a national daily webcast featuring Broadway performers and regional theater work around the country. The theater has won over 25 Leon Rabin Awards and 30 Theater Critics Forum Awards in its first eighteen seasons. It has also been named the best theater company by the Dallas Voice Readers and by the Dallas Observer.
