TO PROVIDE A COMPREHENSIVE AND INTEGRATED CONTINUUM OF HIGH QUALITY TRAUMA INFORMED BEHAVIORAL INTERVENTIONS, TREATMENT AND EDUCATION SERVICES.
DRUG AND ALCOHOL DEPENDENCE TREATMENT - ALIVIANE, INC. IS A MINORITY-GOVERNED, NONPROFIT COMMUNITY-BASED ORGANIZATION THAT BEGAN AS A GRASS ROOTS TREATMENT PROGRAM FOR MALE AND FEMALE HEROIN ADDICTS IN 1970. THE PROGRAM BEGAN BY WORKING WITH INDIVIDUALS LABELED AS HARDCORE SUBSTANCE ABUSERS THAT WERE DIFFICULT TO REHABILITATE. OVER THE YEARS, THE AGENCY HAS DEVELOPED INTO EL PASO TEXAS' PREMIER BEHAVIORAL HEALTH PROVIDER AND IS THE OLDEST AND MOST EXPERIENCED ADDICTION TREATMENT AND PREVENTION SYSTEM IN WEST TEXAS. IN TOTAL, THE AGENCY OPERATES FOURTEEN TREATMENT PROGRAMS THROUGHOUT EIGHT FACILITIES. THE AGENCY OPERATES ONE RESIDENTIAL CENTER FOR MEN AND ONE FOR WOMEN, PREGNANT WOMEN, AND WOMEN WITH CHILDREN, THREE ADULT OUTPATIENT FACILITIES ONE IN EL PASO COUNTY AND ONE EACH IN THE COUNTIES OF BREWSTER AND CULBERSON, ONE OPIOID SUBSTITUTION THERAPY CLINIC, ONE BEHAVIORAL HEALTH OUTPATIENT CLINIC FOR ADULTS AND CHILDREN, AND ONE OUTPATIENT FACILITY FOR YOUTH. ADDITIONALLY, THE AGENCY OPERATES TWO INTENSIVE CASE MANAGEMENT PROGRAMS DIRECTLY LINKED TO SUBSTANCE ABUSE AND MENTAL HEALTH TREATMENT SERVICES IN AN EFFORT TO INCREASE TIMELY ACCESS TO EARLY SUBSTANCE ABUSE SERVICES FOR THE CLIENT AND THEIR FAMILY. ALL FACILITIES ARE CURRENTLY LICENSED AND FUNDED BY THE TEXAS STATE SINGLE AUTHORITY ON SUBSTANCE ABUSE SERVICES, THE TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF STATE HEALTH SERVICES. FURTHERMORE, LOCAL, STATE, AND FEDERAL GRANT PROGRAMS FUND EACH FACILITY. OVERALL, THE AGENCY PROVIDES A BROAD RANGE OF SERVICES WITHIN THE CONTEXT OF A STRONG COMMUNITY SUPPORT NETWORK USING A VARIETY OF THERAPEUTIC APPROACHES AND SETTINGS DESIGNED TO MEET THE INDIVIDUAL NEEDS OF CLIENTS. HISTORICALLY, ALIVIANE'S APPROACH TO TREATMENT HAS BEEN CULTURALLY APPROPRIATE AND INCLUDES THE INVOLVEMENT OF THE FAMILY AND COMPREHENSIVE REHABILITATION OF THE INDIVIDUAL.
DRUG AND ALCOHOL DEPENDENCE PREVENTION - IN ADDITION TO ALCOHOL AND DRUG TREATMENT SERVICES, ALIVIANE PROVIDES ALCOHOL AND DRUG PREVENTION AND INTERVENTION SERVICES. THIS IS BECAUSE THE AGENCY BELIEVES THAT PART OF THE ANSWER TO THE DRUG PROBLEM BEGINS WITH THE EDUCATION OF OUR CHILDREN. THE AGENCY HAS OFFERED PREVENTION AND INTERVENTION SERVICES FOR OVER 20 YEARS AND TO DATE PROGRAM SERVICES ARE OFFERED OUT OF several SEPARATE LOCATIONS AND WITHIN SEVERAL SCHOOL DISTRICTS IN EL PASO, BRESTWER, PRESIDIO, AND CULBERSON COUNTY. THREE PROGRAMS INCLUDING THE PRIDES, ALPHA, AND BETA PROGRAMS PROVIDE ALCOHOL, TOBACCO, AND OTHER DRUG EDUCATION UTILIZING SEVERAL APPROVED CURRICULUM. THE FOCUS OF EACH PROGRAM IS ON REDUCING RISK FACTORS OF SUBSTANCE ABUSE AND INCREASING PROTECTIVE FACTORS OF INDIVIDUALS, FAMILIES, PEERS, SCHOOLS, AND COMMUNITIES. EACH PROGRAM ALSO INCLUDES PREVENTION EDUCATION AND SKILLS TRAINING TO ENHANCE COMMUNICATION, PROBLEM SOLVING, DECISION-MAKING AND CONFLICT RESOLUTION. IN ADDITION TO THESE PROGRAMS THE AGENCY HAS TWO OTHER PREVENTION PROGRAMS ENTITLED DANDO FUERZA A LA FAMILIA AND ALIANZA FAMILIAR THAT PROVIDE EDUCATION SKILLS USING THE DANDO FUERZA A LA FAMILIA CURRICULUM FOR FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN 6-11 YEARS OF AGE. THESE PROGRAMS ARE SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED FOR CHILDREN OF SUBSTANCE ABUSING PARENTS OR PARENTS AT RISK OF SUBSTANCE ABUSE. IN FACT, THE CURRICULUM USED WAS ADAPTED BY ALIVIANE FROM THE NATIONALLY RECOGNIZED STRENGTHENING FAMILIES CURRICULUM, TO BE SPECIFIC FOR MEXICAN AMERICAN BORDER COMMUNITIES. WITHIN ALIVIANE'S PREVENTION SERVICES ARE A SUBSET OF SERVICES LABELED INTERVENTION PROGRAMS. THESE PROGRAMS INCLUDE THE PREGNANT AND POST PARTUM INTERVENTION (PPI) AND IMASTAR. THE PPI PROGRAM TARGETS PREGNANT WOMEN AND/OR POSTPARTUM WOMEN WITH CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF 18 MONTHS WHO ARE AT RISK OF BECOMING SUBSTANCE ABUSERS. REFERRALS COME FROM EL PASO AND SURROUNDING AREA WIC OFFICES, DOMESTIC VIOLENCE OFFICES, THE DEPT. OF FAMILY AND PROTECTIVE SERVICES, WORKFORCE CENTERS, AND MENTAL HEALTH AGENCIES. WOMEN WHO ARE DETERMINED TO BE AT RISK OF BECOMING SUBSTANCE ABUSERES ARE OFFERED INDIVIDUAL CASE MANAGEMENT SERVICES AND PARENTING EDUCATION. OTHER BENEFITS INCLUDE FREE TRANSPORTATION, FREE CHILDCARE, AND AMENITIES SUCH AS HEALTHY SNACKS FOR THE FAMILY WHILE THEY ATTEND PARENTING CLASSES AND FAMILY OUTINGS. THE IMASTAR PROGRAM PROVIDES INTERVENTION SERVICES TO STUDENTS FROM THE SOCORRO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT THAT HAVE BEEN PLACED AT THE KEY'S ACADEMY ALTERNATIVE SCHOOL. THIS PROGRAM OFFERS SCREENING AND ASSESSMENT FOR SUBSTANCE ABUSE, AND OTHER BEHAVIORAL HEALTH ISSUES. SERVICES ALSO INCLUDE INDIVIDUAL AND GROUP COUNSELING, CRISIS INTERVENTION, REFERRALS AS NEEDED AND ALTERNATIVE ACTIVITIES. PROGRAM STAFF PROVIDE YOUTH WITH EDUCATION AND SKILLS TRAINING USING SEVERAL APPROVED CURRICULUM AND PREVENTION EDUCATION SKILLS TRAINING.
HIV PREVENTION PROGRAMS - ALIVIANE, INC. HAS BEEN A LEADER IN HIV PREVENTION FOR OVER 15 YEARS FOR THE EL PASO COMMUNITY. PROGRAMS INCLUDE STATE FUNDED HIV STREET OUTREACH PROGRAM AND HIV EARLY INTERVENTION (HEI) PROGRAMS. THE ADULT HIV PREVENTION PROGRAMS TARGET INDIVIDUALS LIVING IN THE SURROUNDING EL PASO, COUNTY. THE MOST PREVALENT INCIDENTS OF HIV INFECTION ARE FOUND AMONGST MEXICAN AMERICAN INJECTION DRUG USERS LIVING IN THESE SETTLEMENTS. EACH OUTREACH PROGRAM IS DESIGNED TO INCREASE OPPORTUNITIES FOR ACTIVE SUBSTANCE ABUSERS AND THEIR PARTNERS AT RISK FOR COMMUNICABLE DISEASES TO MAKE POSITIVE BEHAVIOR CHANGES THAT REDUCE OR ELIMINATE THE POTENTIAL FOR INFECTION. THESE PROGRAMS TARGET SUBSTANCE ABUSERS WHO MAY NOT BE SEEKING TREATMENT AND PROVIDE CULTURALLY RELEVANT INFORMATION, ACTIVITIES, REFERRALS, AND EDUCATION DIRECTED TOWARD INFORMING THEM ABOUT THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN DRUG USE, HIV AND OTHER COMMUNICABLE DISEASES, INCLUDING HEPATITIS C. THE HIV OUTREACH PROGRAM ALSO DEMONSTRATES HIV RISK REDUCTION STRATEGIES APPROPRIATE TO THE TARGET POPULATION. PROGRAMS PROVIDE ONGOING CONTACTS TO REINFORCE AND CONTINUE BEHAVIOR CHANGE, FACILITATES LINKAGES AND ACCESS TO HEALTH CARE, MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELING, HIV EARLY INTERVENTION CASE MANAGEMENT PROGRAMS, AND INITIATES AND FACILITATES REFERRAL INTO SUBSTANCE ABUSE TREATMENT.
