Organizations Filed Purposes:
The purpose or purposes for which the Dallas Independent Volleyball Association (Association) is organized is exclusively for charitable and educational purposes under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, or corresponding section of any future federal tax code. Further: (1) to promote quality amateur volleyball of all levels of play for persons of any sex, race, color, creed, sexual orientation, sexual identity, ethnicity or national origin, without prejudice, with special emphasis placed on the participation of members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community and their straight allies.; (2) The Association fosters local, national and international amateur volleyball competitions, and supports and develops amateur athletes for such competitions.; and (3) The Association fosters positive social activity in and encourages charitable activities for the community.
The Dallas Independent Volleyball Association (Association) works to fulfill our purpose in a number of ways. The Association runs 4 volleyball seasons throughout the year, with the 2016 fall season attracting almost 779 members. During the season, the league works to encourage volleyball, particularly among members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community, by providing a safe space to play and develop skills. In addition, the Association hosts 2 national tournaments per year, fostering the development of volleyball nationally and supporting amateur athletes in the LGBT community. The Association participates in community and charitable events, including Dallas Pride and our annual Miss DIVA pageant to support the Dallas Resource Center, a community center for the Dallas LGBT community.
