American Airlines Ski and Snowboard Club provides an opportunity for American Airlines' employees and retirees to enjoy winter sport activities up to five weeks out of every year. These are at but not limited to Steamboat Springs CO, Crested Butte CO, Heavenly CA, Kitzbuhel AU, Telluride CO, Bad Kleinkircheim AU. Last year our activities included five ski Weeks at Steamboat Springs CO (January 13-18, 2019), Telluride, CO (February 10-15, 2019), IASF Bad Kleinkirchheim, Austria (March 10-15, 2019), and Crested Butte CO (March 24-29, 2019). Steamboat Springs in December is our most important event because it is our "training Camp". Thirty percent of our resources are devoted to this event. The IASF (International Airline Ski Federation) event in Europe is second to training camp. Twenty five percent of our resources are devoted to this event. The other three events are equal as far as resources at fifteen percent at each event.
The charity we support is the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. We as a club donate a ski week for two people to help raise money for Cystic Fibrosis. The AA Celebrity Ski weekend is a fundraiser benefiting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and has generated over 30 million for CF. American Airlines Corp has produced this event every year, sually the first weekend of March. Every year at Celebrity Ski, they have an auction on Saturday evening and we have been fortunate enough to donate a ski week for two as a bid item. Whoever has the highest bid on our item gets to ski with the American Airlines Ski & Snowboard club at one of our ski weeks. They pay Cystic Fibrosis whatever they bid (it has been as high as $10,500) then their ski trip with us is gratis. It generally costs us approximately $2500 to make this happen. So the bottom line is this, we leverage what we do (A fun week of skiing) to help raise money for Cystic Fibrosis.
