Organizations Filed Purposes: OUR MISSION IS TO BENEFIT THE FORT WORTH LIBRARY AND FORT WORTH COMMUNITY BY PROVIDING RESOURCES THAT SUPPORT EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMING AND INFRASTRUCTURE IMPROVEMENTS.

LAUNCHPAD PROVIDES HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS WITH FREE PROFESSIONAL ASSISTANCE AND COUNSELING ON THE COLLEGE APPLICATION PROCESS. THIS INCLUDES TECHNICAL HELP WITH WRITING COLLEGE ESSAYS AND SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS, AS WELL AS GUIDANCE ON COLLEGE READINESS AND SELECTION. IN THE 2018-19 SCHOOL YEAR, LAUNCHPAD SUPPORTED 152 JUNIORS AND SENIORS THROUGH INDIVIDUAL ADVISING SESSIONS AND AN ADDITIONAL 1,000 STUDENTS THROUGH SMALL GROUP SESSIONS AND PRESENTATIONS AT FORT WORTH HIGH SCHOOLS. ALL SENIORS WHO PARTICIPATED IN ONE-ON-ONE SESSIONS RECEIVED COLLEGE ACCEPTANCES, RANGING FROM HARVARD UNIVERSITY TO TARRANT COUNTY COLLEGE, AND EARNED MORE THAN $4 MILLION IN MERIT-BASED SCHOLARSHIPS.

IN 2019, WE CELEBRATED THE 10TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE 3RD THURSDAY JAZZ SERIES. IN ADDITION TO FIVE FREE CONCERTS GIVEN BY NATIONAL AND REGIONAL PERFORMERS THAT WERE HELD AT THE CENTRAL LIBRARY FROM MAY-SEPTEMBER, THE PROGRAM EXPANDED TO INCLUDE ACTIVITIES FOR ADULTS AND CHILDREN AT LIBRARIES ACROSS THE CITY. FROM LIVE MUSIC AT JAZZ COFFEE HOUR TO COMBINING JAZZ WITH ART, POETRY, AND SCIENCE PATRONS ENJOYED PROGRAMMING THAT EXPLORED A VARIETY OF MUSIC CULTURES AND ARTISTIC MEDIUMS. MORE THAN 2,500 PEOPLE ATTEND THE MUSIC SERIES.

THE LIBRARY FOUNDATION SELECTS 2-3 NATIONALLY RENOWNED AUTHORS AND ILLUSTRATORS EACH YEAR TO PARTICIPATE IN ITS CHILDREN'S AUTHOR SERIES. THE PROGRAM IS TARGETED PRIMARILY FOR UNSERVED FORT WORTH ISD ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS WITHOUT THE BUDGET OR BOOSTERS TO FUND SUCH A PROGRAM. PARTICIPATING AUTHORS/ILLUSTRATORS TYPICALLY STAY 2-4 DAYS, GIVING 45 MINUTE PRESENTATIONS TO THREE FORT WORTH ISD SCHOOLS DAILY. AS MOST OF THE SCHOOLS SERVED ARE TITLE 1 ELEMENTATY SCHOOLS WHOSE STUDENTS ARE NOT MEETING THE STATE READING STANDARDS, THE GOAL OF THE CHILDREN'S AUTHOR SERIES IS TO IGNITE OR FOSTER A LOVE OF READING FOR THESE STUDENTS. IN THE 2018-19 SCHOOL YEAR, AUTHOR/SONGWRITER AND ZOOLOGIST LUCAS MILLER AND AUTHORS KENNETH OPPEL AND JAMES PRELLER SPOKE TO MORE THAN 2,800 AREA CHILDREN AT TITLE 1 ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS THROUGHOUT FORT WORTH. SINCE ITS INCEPTION IN 1997, 72 AUTHORS HAVE ENGAGED WITH 51,200 FORT WORTH ISD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS THROUGH CHILDREN'S AUTHOR SERIES.
