Organizations Filed Purposes:
To provide services for individuals with disabilities so that they are able to lead self-directed lives and educate the general public on disability-related topics in order to promote a barrier free community.
Employees handled 6,436 requests for I&R assistance from people who called, wrote of visited the REACH offices in Fort Worth, Dallas, Denton and Plano, TX during the year. The objective for offering this service was to provide needed information about community resources such as affordable & accessible housing options, personal assistance services, public transportation, counseling resources, assistive technology devices, emergency financial assistance, medical services, employment assistance, food, clothing, etc. so that the requestor was able to get the assistance he/she needed.
Employees assisted individuals with disabilities on 388 occasions deal with/handle problems they encountered regarding issues such as employment discrimination, denial of benefits, housing discrimination, removal of access barriers, service denial, etc. The objective of offering this service was to assist individuals with disabilities resolve the problems/barriers they encountered in living, working, socializing, voting, etc. in the community where they live.
Individuals with disabilities participated in 208 independent living skills training sessions that were offered/conducted during the year at the REACH of Fort Worth, Dallas, Denton and Plano offices. The training sessions covered topics such as basic computer skills, budgeting & money management, improving interpersonal relationships, time management, assertiveness skills, relaxation techniques, microwave cooking skills, nutritious meal planning, communication skills, adaptive equipment use, organizational skills, household cleaning techniques, personal and home safety, etc. The objective was for the participants to learn the skills they needed to handle daily living tasks/activities.
