Organizations Filed Purposes:
Our mission is to meet the spiritual and practical needs of the families of prisoners. We strive to provide a safe and caring home in which families can rest while visiting loved ones currently incarcerated in the adjacent prison system.
The Hospitality House continues to minister to families by providing those traveling to Gatesville a place to rest while waiting for visiting opportunities at one of the six adjacent prison units. Volunteers at the Hospitality House provided meals and refreshments, children's activities, and counseling as needed. In 2018, 523 volunteers served a total of 1390.5 hours at the facility. The Organization received and dispensed countless donated items such as food, drinks, cleaning supplies, paper products and books to the guests at no charge to them.Overnight shelter is provided for families who travel over 250 miles and have permission for a special four hour weekend visit with their incarcerated loved one. The facility includes 10 private bedrooms, a kitchen, dining room, laundry, shower room and an indoor/outdoor children's play area. It also provides a designated office space and workday use apartment for the manager. In 2018 the Organization served 1,447 guests. Of that number, 904 visitors stayed overnight and 543 were day visitors. A total of 1,869 meals were served to guests. The Hospitality House also passed on donated items that they could not use in their ministry to the Boys and Girls Club and the Gatesville Care Center.
In addition to serving families, the Organization hosted the University of Texas Medical staff and personnel who serve the prison. About 60 people attended. The Organization also hosted a number of pastors for lunch throughout the year and spoke at some of the area Lions Club and Exchange Club meetings. The facility is available for weekday use for prison personnel meetings and other needs. It has been designated as a meeting place in case of a major emergency at the prison system.
