Resilient Communities: Through science, the law, and community empowerment we aim to protect and restore our natural systems, achieve equitable policy solutions, and advance systematic change to benefit all who live within our watershed. Our activities include policy analyses and power mapping, and the development of focused advocacy campaigns to drive change at the local, regional, and state level. Our efforts center around ensuring equal protection from environmental hazards, promoting nature-based solutions for climate adaptation, and providing opportunities for meaningful citizen involvement in decisions that affect environmental health.
Clean Water: Bayou City Waterkeeper works to protect and restore the integrity of our bayous, rivers, and streams that flow into our coastal bays. Utilizing advocacy, policy, science, education and the law we aim to hold polluters accountable and work towards our goal of fishable, swimmable, drinkable water for all. Our programs address water quality issues ranging from sampling and monitoring, to tracking sources of water pollution, to working with decision-makers on Texas water quality standards and watershed protection plans.
Protecting Wetlands: Bayou City Waterkeeper aims to preserve and protect our wetlands by reviewing requests for wetland destruction permits and monitoring new and ongoing development projects that occur in our interior wetlands. Through our Wetland Watch Program, we share our policy expertise with people and communities who want to stop these damaging projects, and help locals fight wetland destruction in their communities - demanding that applicants avoid wetland destruction with reasonable, alternative plans.
