CLIENT DIRECT SERVICES - ECHOS provides on-site services for health care, food, application assistance and other key social services. In 2019, ECHOS provided the following: -48,342 individuals received nutritious food through the food pantry and Saturday food fairs- 20,292 unduplicated individuals (5,899 unduplicated families) received application assistance, food vouchers, health screenings, domestic violence support groups, food, ESL and computer literacy classes, and back to school supplies at ECHOS- 4,708 individuals received application assistance for food stamps, CHIP, Children's Medicaid, CHIP Perinatal and Gold Card- 1,905 children and adults received vision, glucose, or blood pressure screenings or dental care- 2,590 individuals received disaster relief services.
BENEFITS APPLICATION ASSISTANCE - On-site health education and application assistance for healthcare and other social services. ECHOS provides education about and assistance in completing and submitting applications to State and County medical and social services including: - Medicaid/CHIP Perinatal programs - provides appropriate prenatal care for women- Children's Medicaid/CHIP programs - provides full service medical and dental services for those children whose parents are unable to afford existing medical insurance programs - Harris Health Systems (formerly Harris County Hospital District) Financial Assistance Program ("gold card") - ensures uninsured individuals who reside in Harris County can receive discounted services at a primary care clinic rather than the emergency room - Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) - provides cash assistance for those in need to purchase healthy food for their families
HARVEY RELIEF/DISASTER RELIEF ASSISTANCE - When Hurricane Harvey hit the Houston area, ECHOS was on the front line assisting victims of Hurricane Harvey by providing food, personal hygiene items, metro cards, vouchers, blankets, cleaning buckets and other needed items. In 2019, ECHOS continued to provide families with ongoing relief including furniture, utility and rental/mortgage assistance, and gift/grocery cards/food vouchers as needed.
