SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH

THE GABRIEL INSTITUTE, INC HAS DEVELOPED A MICRO DRILLING DEVICE FOR DRILLING THROUGH THE INSIDE OF A 22G NEEDLE. THIS IS BEING USED IN CONJUCTION WITH RADIATION SHIELDED MICROSYRINGES FOR THE DELIVERY OF MICROLITER QUANTITIES OF SHORT HALF-LIFE BETA EMITTING RADIOISOTOPES DIRECTLY TO TUMORS. AT ISOTHERAPEUTICS GROUP THE TREATMENT METHOD AND TOOLS WERE FIRST UTILIZED ON LABORATORY ANIMALS, SPRAGUE DAWLEY RATS, TO PROVE THAT THE ISOTOPES REMAINED IN THE INJECTION SITE. LATER LABORATORY RATS WITH XENOGRAFTED TUMOR CELLS WERE TREATED WITH THE INJECTION METHOD TO PROVE EFFICACY OF THE TECHNIQUE. AFTER THE SUCCESSFUL RAT RESULTS, TREATMENT WAS BEGUN ON DOGS WITH SPONTANEOUS BONE TUMORS, FIRST AT ISOTHERAPEUTICS, THEN AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI, AND THE TEXAS INSTITUTE FOR PRECLINICAL STUDIES (TEXAS A&M). RESULTS HAVE BEEN PRESENTED AT THE SOCIETY FOR NUCLEAR MEDICINE, THE VETERINARY CANCER SOCIETY, AND THE JOURNAL OF PHYSICS CONFERENCE SERIES. CURRENTLY, WE ARE DEVELOPING AN AUTOMATED INJECTION SYSTEM TO DELIVER LINEAR INJECTIONS OF ISOTOPES AT O DELTA P FOR MORE UNIFORM ISOTOPE DELIVERY. THIS SYSTEM INCLUDES A NEW ELECTRONIC SYRINGE PUMP, AND A LINEAR NEEDLE DRIVE WHICH SYNCHRONIZES ITS MOVEMENT WITH DELIVERY OF ISOTOPES FROM THE PUMP. FURTHER, GABRIEL INSTITUTE IS WORKING WITH RICHARD WENDT A PHD AT M.D. ANDERSON HOSPITAL IN HOUSTON, TEXAS. THE RESEARCH IS IDENTIFYING RISKS OF RADIATION IN ANIMALS AND RETENTION OF ANIMALS AFTER TREATMENT WITH A RADIOACTIVE DRUG OR IODINE. A PUBLICATION IS IN PROCESS AND WILL BE COMPLETED IN THE NEAR FUTURE. IN ADDITION, GABRIEL INSTITUTE CONTINUES TO EXPAND WORK IN ANIMAL THERAPY, WHICH IS A CHARITABLE PURPOSE OF GABRIEL INSTITUTE. GABRIEL INSTITUTE IS ACTIVELY PROVIDING ANIMAL ASSISTED THERAPY SERVICES WHERE USE OF TRAINED COMPANION ANIMALS ASSIST IN RECOVERY IN HOSPITALS AND ALSO WITH PATIENTS IN NURSING CARE AND DEMENTIA CARE CENTERS. GABRIEL INSTITUTE HAS EXPANDED ITS ANIMAL THERAPY PROGRAM TO INCLUDE 19 TEAMS IN 3 STATES IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA AND IN B.C. CANADA. THE AMERICAN KENNEL CLUB ("AKC") RECOGNIZES GABRIEL INSTITUTE AS A THERAPY ORGANIZATION AND THE TRAINING PROTOCOL GABRIEL INSTITUTE HAS ESTABLISHED. FURTHER, GABRIEL INSTITUTE CONTINUES TO COLLABORATE WITH TEXAS CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL IN HOUSTON, TEXAS AND PARTICIPATE IN DEVELOPING A TREATMENT FOR PEDIATRIC BONE CANCER IN CHILDREN.
