Organizations Filed Purposes: THE MISSION AT THE GREATER HOUSTON PARTNERSHIP IS TO MAKE THE HOUSTON REGION THE WORLD'S BEST PLACE TO LIVE, WORK, AND BUILD A BUSINESS. WE DO THIS THROUGH OUR ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS, OUR PUBLIC POLICY WORK, AND BY COLLABORATING WITH LEADERS OF THE COMMUNITY TO HELP SOLVE THE REGION'S MOST PRESSING ISSUES.

A MEMBER-BASED ORGANIZATION THAT WORKS WITH AND ON BEHALF OF THE REGION'S BUSINESS COMMUNITY TO MAKE HOUSTON ONE OF THE WORLD'S BEST PLACES TO LIVE, WORK, AND BUILD BUSINESS.

THROUGH ITS MEMBERSHIP, GHP REPRESENTS THE INTERESTS OF THE 11 COUNTY HOUSTON REGION WITH OVER 17,000 MEMBER EMPLOYEES PARTICIPATING IN COMMITTEES, TASK FORCES AND INITIATIVES, REPRESENTING OVER 1,100 MEMBER COMPANIES. DURING 2019, OVER 204 EVENTS AND MEETINGS WERE HOSTED; ENJOYED BY OVER 17,000 PARTICIPANTS.

THE PARTNERSHIP PROMOTES THE HOUSTON REGION ACROSS THE COUNTRY AND AROUND THE GLOBE. IN 2019, THE GREATER HOUSTON PARTNERSHIP'S ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT TEAM AND ITS REGIONAL ALLIES HELPED 21 COMPANIES EXPAND OR RELOCATE WITHIN THE HOUSTON REGION, RESULTING IN THE CREATION OF 3,798 JOBS AND $2.0 BILLION IN CAPITAL INVESTMENT. FOREIGN DIRECT INVESTMENT PROJECTS ACCOUNTED FOR 66 PERCENT OF THE PARTNERSHIP ASSISTED CAPITAL INVESTMENT IN THE REGION. THE PARTNERSHIP'S INTERNATIONAL INVESTMENT AND TRADE ACTIVITIES IN 2019 INCLUDED HOSTING MORE THAN 161 INBOUND DELEGATIONS FROM 54 COUNTRIES, CONDUCTING 337 BRIEFINGS AND PRODUCING 884 TRADE MATCHES TO CREATE REGIONAL JOBS, ATTRACT INVESTMENT, AND EXPAND TRADE.

THE PARTNERSHIP WORKS WITH AND ON BEHALF OF OUR MEMBERS TO IDENTIFY AND SUPPORT PRO-GROWTH, PRO-BUSINESS POLICIES THAT PROMOTE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AND ENHANCE THE QUALITY OF LIFE THROUGHOUT THE HOUSTON REGION. IN 2019, THE PARTNERSHIPS PRIMARY AREAS OF POLICY FOCUS WERE RELATED TO IMPROVING THE REGIONS FLOOD RESILIENCY FOLLOWING HURRICANE HARVEY AS WELL AS PUBLIC SCHOOL FINANCE REFORM. THE PARTNERSHIP WORKED WITH LOCAL OFFICIALS TO BUILD ROBUST SUPPORT FOR FUNDING IN AUSTIN, WASHINGTON D.C. AND WITH LOCAL VOTERS FOR A MORE RESILIENT HOUSTON. RESULTS INCLUDE: THE TEXAS LEGISLATURE PASSED THE STATES FIRST FLOOD PLANNING, RECOVERY AND RESILIENCE PACKAGE, SECURING $2 BILLION IN STATE FUNDING. FOR THE PARTNERSHIP'S ESTABLISHED KEY PRINCIPLES FOR SCHOOL FINANCE REFORM, WHICH WERE REFLECTED IN THE ACTIONS OF THE 86TH TEXAS LEGISLATURE: (1) PRIORITIZING FORMULA FUNDING WEIGHTS FOR ECONOMICALLY-DISADVANTAGED AND ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNER STUDENTS, (2) FUNDING EARLY EDUCATION WITH AN EMPHASIS ON PROGRAMS THAT INCREASE THE READING PROFICIENCY OF STUDENTS BY THIRD GRADE, (3) INCREASING PAY FOR THE BEST TEACHERS AND INCENTIVIZING THE BEST TEACHERS TO TEACH IN THE LOWEST PERFORMING SCHOOLS, (4) EQUITABLY REDUCING THE BURDEN OF RECAPTURE, AND (5) INCREASING THE STATE'S SHARE OF EDUCATION FUNDING. HOUSE BILL 3 LED MORE THAN $400 MILLION IN NEW STATE FUNDING TO THE HOUSTON REGION. ADDITIONAL FUNDS WERE DEDICATED FOR ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED AND ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNER STUDENTS, IMPROVING THIRD GRADE LITERACY RATES AND SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCING THE LOCAL BURDEN OF FUNDING PUBLIC EDUCATION.
