Organizations Filed Purposes: HOLOCAUST MUSEUM HOUSTON IS DEDICATED TO EDUCATING PEOPLE ABOUT THE HOLOCAUST, REMEMBERING THE 6 MILLION JEWS AND OTHER INNOCENT VICTIMS AND HONORING THE SURVIVORS' LEGACY. USING THE LESSONS OF THE HOLOCAUST AND OTHER GENOCIDES, WE TEACH THE DANGERS OF HATRED, PREJUDICE, AND APATHY.

THE ORGANIZATION IS A MUSEUM, EDUCATION CENTER, AND MEMORIAL TO THE VICTIMS OF THE HOLOCAUST.

EXHIBITIONS - HOLOCAUST MUSEUM HOUSTON'S PERMANENT EXHIBIT, "BEARING WITNESS: A COMMUNITY REMEMBERS" IS PERSONALIZED WITH TESTIMONY OF HOLOCAUST SURVIVORS WHO LATER SETTLED IN THE HOUSTON AREA. THE GALLERY FEATURES ARTIFACTS DONATED BY THE HOLOCAUST SURVIVORS, THEIR DESCENDANTS, LIBERATORS, AND OTHER COLLECTORS AND WAS RECENTLY EXPANDED TO INCORPORATE TWO OF THE MUSEUM'S MOST IMPORTANT ARTIFACTS, THE WORLD WAR II ERA RAILCAR AND THE 1940'S DANISH RESCUE BOAT, INTO THE GALLERY. THE MUSEUM ADDED THREE ADDITIONAL PERMANENT EXHIBITIONS IN ITS NEW FACILITY: HUMAN RIGHTS GALLERY, AND STILL I WRITE: YOUNG DIARISTS ON WAR AND GENOCIDE, AND SAMUEL BAK GALLERY & LEARNING CENTER. DURING THE FISCAL YEAR ENDED JUNE 30, 2020 THE MUSEUM HOSTED A VARIETY OF TEMPORARY EXHIBITS INCLUDING "THE BOOK SMUGGLERS: PARTISANS, POETS AND THE RACE TO SAVE JEWISH TREASURES FROM THE NAZIS," BASED ON THE BOOK OF THE SAME NAME BY DAVID E. FISHMAN, MADE ITS WORLD DEBUT AND WAS CURATED BY HMH'S CHIEF CURATOR OF COLLECTIONS. THE EXHIBIT TELLS THE NEARLY UNBELIEVABLE TRUE STORY OF GHETTO RESIDENTS WHO RESCUED THOUSANDS OF RARE BOOKS AND MANUSCRIPTS BY HIDING THEM ON THEIR PERSONS, BURYING THEM IN BUNKERS AND SMUGGLING THEM ACROSS BORDERS. "DANNY LYON: MEMORIES OF THE SOUTHERN CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT" A SELECTION OF THE PHOTOGRAPHER'S OWN VISUAL MEMOIR OF HIS TIME IN THE CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT, CAPTURING BOTH BRUTAL ENCOUNTERS AND PRAYERFUL MOMENTS. "DOLORES HUERTA: REVOLUTION IN THE FIELDS/REVOLUCION EN LOS CAMPOS" SHARES A COMPELLING STORY OF THE LEGENDARY ACTIVIST AND LEADER AND THE FARM WORKERS MOVEMENT OF THE 1960S AND 70S. "POINTS OF VIEW" A NATIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITION OFFERS GLIMPSES INTO HOW PEOPLE PERCEIVE HUMAN RIGHTS AROUND THEM - RIGHTS RELATED TO FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION, INCLUSION AND DIVERSITY, RECONCILIATION AND THE ENVIRONMENT.

EDUCATION - HOLOCAUST MUSEUM HOUSTON REACHED NEARLY 49,000 STUDENTS AND TRAINED OVER 800 TEACHERS USING A VARIETY OF EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS. THE MUSEUM DEVELOPED A CORPS OF EDUCATORS TO EFFECTIVELY TEACH ABOUT THE HOLOCAUST AND OTHER GENOCIDES BY HOSTING VARIOUS FELLOWSHIPS WHERE EMINENT SCHOLARS PROVIDE HISTORICAL AND ACADEMIC CONTENT WHILE UNIVERSITY FACULTY, AS WELL AS MUSEUM STAFF, PROVIDE PEDAGOGICAL CONTEXT. THROUGH THE EDUCATOR IN MOTION PROGRAM MUSEUM STAFF TRAVEL TO SCHOOLS OR CONDUCT LONG-DISTANCE VIDEO LEARNING SESSIONS TO DELIVER INTERACTIVE LESSONS THAT INCORPORATE SOCIAL STUDIES, LANGUAGE ARTS AND FINE ARTS CONCEPTS TO SUPPORT STUDENT ENGAGEMENT, ENHANCE CONTENT KNOWLEDGE AND COMPREHENSION AND PROMOTE THE DEVELOPMENT OF INDIVIDUAL AND CIVIC RESPONSIBILITY. THE ENGINES OF CHANGE STUDENT AMBASSADOR PROGRAM INTRODUCES HOUSTON-AREA HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS TO HOLOCAUST HISTORY AND ENABLES THEM TO BETTER UNDERSTAND CURRENT ISSUES AND TO DEVELOP THEIR OWN INFORMED OPINIONS AND VOICES ABOUT THE PERILS OF HATRED, PREJUDICE AND APATHY. IN RESPONSE TO COVID-19 THE MUSEUM HAS CREATED NUMEROUS EDUCATIONAL VIDEOS FOR TEACHERS TO USE IN THEIR VIRTUAL CLASSROOMS AND CONTINUES TO CONDUCT THE EDUCATOR IN MOTION PROGRAM REMOTELY.

PUBLIC PROGRAMMING - HOLOCAUST MUSEUM HOUSTON OFFERS A VARIETY OF LECTURES, PANEL DISCUSSIONS AND FILM VIEWINGS FOR PUBLIC ATTENDANCE. DURING THE FISCAL YEAR ENDED JUNE 30, 2020 A LECTURE BY AMERICAN DIPLOMAT, ATTORNEY AND AUTHOR OF "IMPERFECT JUSTICE," STUART EIZENSTAT, SPOKE ON THE RESTITUTION OF NAZI-LOOTED ART AND WHAT REMAINS TO BE DONE. OTHER PUBLIC PROGRAMS OFFERED INCLUDE AN EVENING AND CONVERSATION WITH DOLORES HUERTA ABOUT HER LIFE AND WORK AS A REVOLUTIONARY AND INSPIRATIONAL LEADER DEDICATED TO SOCIAL JUSTICE AND THE FUTURE OF AMERICA; "ACTING WITH EMPATHY" A PERFORMANCE IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE ENSEMBLE THEATRE TO CELEBRATE BLACK HISTORY MONTH FEATURING A SCENE FROM THE GREEN BOOK AND A DISCUSSION LED BY DR. JESSE ESPARZA, ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF HISTORY AT TEXAS SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY; A LECTURE BY ROBERT JAN VAN PELT ON "AUSCHWITZ. NOT LONG AGO.
