THE HOUSTON JUNIOR FORUM, INC. IS A NONPROFIT WOMEN'S ORGANIZATION COMMITTED TO PROVIDING CHARITABLE SERVICE FOR CHILDREN, YOUTH, WOMEN, AND SENIOR ADULTS IN THE HOUSTON COMMUNITY.
HOUSTON JUNIOR FORUM PROVIDES CHARITABLE SERVICES TO CHILDREN, YOUTH, WOMEN & SENIOR ADULTS IN HOUSTON.
HOUSTON JUNIOR FORUM ESTABLISHED THE COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM IN MARCH 1976. THE PROGRAM BENEFITS THE BEST-QUALIFIED HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATES WHO HAVE ATTENDED THE HJF COMMUNITY HOUSE PRESCHOOL. ALTHOUGH THE PRESCHOOL SHUTDOWN IN MAY OF 2009, HJF STILL HANDS CURRENT SCHOLARSHIPS OUT TO PREVIOUS HJF PRESCHOOL STUDENTS. QUALIFIED STUDENTS RECEIVE UP TO $3,000 FOR EACH ACADEMIC YEAR. THESE FUNDS MAY BE USED FOR TUITION, BOOKS, CLOTHING, OR LIVING EXPENSES. THE COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE MEMBERS MAINTAIN CONTACT WITH EACH RECIPIENT THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. SINCE ITS INCEPTION, THE PROGRAM HAS AWARDED MORE THAN $685,000 OF SCHOLARSHIPS TO STUDENTS. FOR THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2018-2019, 30 STUDENTS RECEIVED AT LEAST ONE SEMESTER OF SCHOLARSHIP BENEFITS. ADDITIONALLY, THE ORGANIZATION PROVIDES APRROXIMATELY $2,500/ YEAR FOR A GIFT BOX PROGRAM FUNDED BY THE ORGANIZATION'S ADMINISTRATION TO PROVIDE INCENTIVES FOR SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS.
HOUSTON JUNIOR FORUM HAS OPERATED A RESALE SHOP SINCE 1969. THE HOUSTON JUNIOR FORUM RESALE SHOP IS LOCATED IN THE HEIGHTS AREA AND IS OPEN 6 DAYS A WEEK. BESIDES THE STAFF, HJF MEMBERS SERVES AS VOLUNTEERS AND PROFITS CONTRIBUTE TO THE OPERATING BUDGET OF HJF.
THE HOUSTON JUNIOR FORUM OFFERS COMMUNITY GRANTS TO OTHER NON-PROFIT PROGRAMS IN THE GREATER HOUSTON AREA WHICH SERVE SENIOR ADULTS, WOMEN, AND CHILDREN.
