The mission of Main Street Ministries Houston is to share the love of Christ and empower our community's most vulnerable to experience stability, purpose, and renewal.
Main Street Ministries empowers men, women, and families to exit or prevent homelessness through asset-based development programs including financial, life-skills, and employment education; ID assistance; and spiritual growth and recovery support.
MSM's Financial & Life Empowerment services provide participants with tools and support to avoid homelessness, achieve stability, and move toward self-sustainability through various services: including financial management and life-skills education, short-term financial assistance, one-on-one coaching, and personalized community resource referrals. Our core program is a 4-month workshop that guides participants in establishing long-term goals and developing relationships and resources to support long term sustainability. Volunteers contributed nearly 1,509 hours to assist 134 households.
MSMs Identification Assistance services provide comprehensive support for obtaining Texas identification cards, birth certificates, and drivers licenses - essential documents for accessing employment, housing, banking, and other life-stabilizing resources. This 30+-year-old, volunteer-fueled program is the primary ID assistance provider in Houston, receiving over 70 community agency referrals. We help individuals gather needed documentation, pay required fees, and complete applications necessary to obtain a state-issued identification card and supporting documentation. This fiscal year, volunteers contributed 4,558 volunteer hours to assist 4,147 clients.
MSM's Spiritual Growth & Recovery services provide opportunities for men and women to exit homelessness, grow in faith, and take steps towards a more stable life. Our programs offer a supportive community where participants can engage in recovery support, worship, and spiritual development opportunities. The MSM Community Garden allows MSM program participants and community volunteers to work side-by-side to care for a beautiful garden that glorifies God's creation. Fresh, healthy produce is harvested for Texas Medical Center patients and MSM program participants. Volunteers contributed 1,536 hours to serve over 242 community members.
