Organizations Filed Purposes:
NBHP provides a forum for the leadership of Houston's mental health and substance use providers, both public and private, to communicate, coordinate, and collaborate to improve the community's behavioral health system.
In 2018, NBHP initiated a major collaborative, the "Community Coordination of Care (c3) Initiative" that has over 100 participants representing over 60 greater Houston agencies and organizations. The purpose of the effort is to develop and implement a model of care coordination that includes primary care, behavioral health care, and social service providers that uses social determinants of health model as its conceptual approach. In the Fall of 2019, this program shifted to an actual pilot project that provides services to low-income individuals with mental health needs access needed medical, behavioral health ans social services.
NBHP provided single, stand-alone educational activities throughout the year. NBHP provides five stipends to University of Houston Bachelor of Social Work students in support of their field placement at NBHP member agencies.
After Hurricane Harvey, NBHP developed the Disaster Behavioral Health Initiative, which included the collection of data on continuing emerging mental health needs in the community and the development of a training video for behavioral health professionals who volunteer to provide services in a shelter environment. It also is working on recommendations to ensure the best disaster response for people experiencing behavioral health issues. This program ended in the current (2019-2020) Fiscal Year.
