Organizations Filed Purposes: Inspired by gospel values, the Society provides services to support the mission of enhancing the quality of life for all people and helping them work toward living self-sufficient, dignified lives. Assistance may include food, clothing, furniture, rent, utility, transportation, medical, emotional and spiritual support. The ultimate goal is to meet emergency or basic needs, keeping families together by preventing homelessness and promoting self-sufficiency through our programs.

The Society, part of an international organization, serves the poor through approximately 60 parish volunteer conferences. Food, rent & utilities assistance, clothing, furniture/household goods & other forms of direct assistance are provided through personal contact.

Vincentian Services:Vincentian services has Conferences in approximately 60 parishes which provide compassionate person-to-person service to people in need through home visits and food pantry programs. Assistance is provided with rent, utilities, medical and dental bills, transportation and other emergency needs. The ultimate goal is to meet emergency or basic needs and keep families together by preventing homelessness and promoting self-sufficiency. Through 16 conference food pantries and 8 client-choice pantries, we provide over $5.3 million in food assistance. Through our home visit ministry, we get to know the people we help by going directly to them, allowing our conference volunteers to experience first-hand how the people we serve are living. We provided $3.32 million in rent and utility assistance in this reporting period alone, and visited over 8,100 homes. Through the home visits, the Vincentians identify those issues that are critical to people living in poverty and need, and help bring attention to them so communities and the elected representatives can help develop strategies and tactics that will provide the most effective and efficient means to reduce or eliminate poverty. Our 2,106 volunteers donated 173,513 volunteer hours and drove 363,235 unreimbursed miles.

Thrift Stores and Voucher Ministry:The Society of St. Vincent de Paul strives to provide immediate help for people every day as those needs arise regardless of race, education, citizenship or background. Those in need have to make tough choices between food, rent, utilities, transportation and medical bills. Through our thrift stores, distribution center and voucher program, we have developed, with donor support, sustainable programs through which that help is provided. Through our thrift stores and distribution center, clothing, furniture, appliances and miscellaneous household goods are given free or sold at nominal prices to families in need. Volunteers assist paid staff in sorting, pricing and selling merchandise. Through our voucher ministry, the Society has adopted a distinct way in which we can provide assistance in a discreet and dignified way. This ministry focuses on providing clothing, furniture and household items at no charge. Over 900 vouchers were distributed this year through this program.

Food Network:Society of St. Vincent de Paul Galveston-Houston's Food Network encompasses and supports 24 food pantries that address the growing needs of a burgeoning community in terms of individuals, elderly and families with nourishment and other basic needs. Those served include the elderly, pregnant women, infants and children, and those who suffer from chronic hunger, lack of resources, diabetes, HIV or other chronic illnesses. The pantries provide food items, special diet items and household goods, such as paper products, baby items and hygiene necessities. Our pantries and depot promote healthy diets and dignified lives by providing these services through discreet access. Over 10,000 individuals were served this year through the program.
