Target Hunger, a United Way agency, works in partnership with service providers, community leaders and residents to alleviate hunger and its root causes in inner city neighborhoods. Target Hunger is an independent Texas nonprofit corporation. Target Hunger's first priority is to ensure that those who need food have a place to get it. Target Hunger connects community members with vital resources through education and outreach conducted by collaborating nonprofit organizations.

Fifty percent of the people served reside in a five zip code area, all of which have been designated by the USDA as a food desert and also identified as among Houstons 15 poorest zip codes.
Community Garden: Target Hunger staff, volunteers and community members tend a two acre, 100 bed organic garden located at 4604 Cavalcade Street in Kashmere Gardens, 77026. More than 6,000 pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables are harvested annually, nearly all of which is distributed to pantry clients. The garden increases access to nutritious foods, is a productive green space and serves as a hands-on way to combat food insecurity.
