ONE OF THE LARGEST PEDIATRIC HOSPITALS IN THE UNITED STATES, THE HOSPITAL IS CONSISTENTLY RANKED AS THE BEST CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL IN TEXAS, AND AMONG THE TOP IN THE NATION. TEXAS CHILDREN'S HAS GARNERED WIDESPREAD RECOGNITION FOR ITS EXPERTISE AND BREAKTHROUGHS IN PEDIATRIC AND WOMEN'S HEALTH. DURING THE YEAR THE HOSPITAL OVERALL OPERATED 795 INPATIENT BEDS AND MORE THAN 125 AMBULATORY SPECIALTY CLINICS, SUPPORTED BY AN AWARD-WINNING MEDICAL STAFF CONSISTING OF MORE THAN 1,797 BOARD-CERTIFIED PEDIATRIC SUBSPECIALISTS, OBSTETRICIANS AND GYNECOLOGISTS, ADULT SUBSPECIALISTS AND DENTISTS AND A DEDICATED AND HIGHLY SKILLED NURSING AND SUPPORT STAFF OF MORE THAN 10,181. IN 2019, THE PAVILION PERFORMED APPROXIMATELY 6,205 DELIVERIES AND THE HOSPITAL SYSTEM EXCEEDED 199,080 OUTPATIENT CLINIC VISITS.
RESEARCH: TEXAS CHILDREN'S/BAYLOR RESEARCHERS AT THE FEIGIN CENTER, THE JAN AND DAN DUNCAN NEUROLOGICAL RESEARCH INSTITUTE AND THE CHILDREN'S NUTRITION RESEARCH CENTER ARE CONDUCTING SOME OF THE MOST INNOVATIVE ONGOING RESEARCH IN A VARIETY OF AREAS FROM PEDIATRIC CARDIOLOGY TO INFECTIOUS DISEASES, NUTRITION, VACCINES AND PEDIATRIC NEUROLOGY AND NEUROGENETICS. DURING 2019, TEXAS CHILDREN'S INVESTED IN MORE THAN $109 MILLION IN OVER 2,132 CLINICAL, BASIC AND TRANSLATIONAL RESEARCH PROJECTS, EXPLORING A WIDE RANGE OF CHILDREN'S AND WOMEN'S HEALTH ISSUES. IN ADDITION, THE HOSPITAL CONTINUED ITS STRATEGIC FOCUS ON THE GROWTH AND SUCCESS OF ALL TEXAS CHILDREN'S RESEARCH ENDEAVORS THROUGH ENHANCED INFRASTRUCTURE, SUCH AS THE EXPANSION OF THE JAN AND DAN DUNCAN NEUROLOGICAL RESEARCH INSTITUTE WHERE INVESTIGATORS CAN ACCESS CUTTING EDGE IMAGING MODALITIES, SUCH AS TWO-PHOTON MICROSCOPY, AND STATE-OF-THE-ART NEUROPHYSIOLOGY AND BEHAVIORAL SCIENCE CORE RESOURCES.
EDUCATION: THE HOSPITAL SERVES AS THE PRIMARY PEDIATRIC TEACHING FACILITY FOR BAYLOR COLLEGE OF MEDICINE (THEIR LONG-TERM ACADEMIC PARTNER). IN ADDITION, THE TEXAS CHILDREN'S PAVILION FOR WOMEN IS ONE OF THE PREMIER PRIVATE TRAINING HOSPITALS FOR BAYLOR COLLEGE OF MEDICINE'S DEPARTMENT OF OBSTETRICS AND GYNECOLOGY. THE CLOSE AFFILIATION BETWEEN THE INSTITUTIONS EXTENDS THROUGHOUT TEXAS CHILDREN'S OPERATIONS, BAYLOR FACULTY INCLUDING SERVICE CHIEFS, MEDICAL DIRECTORS AND STAFF PHYSICIANS ACROSS THE HOSPITAL'S 65 SUB-SPECIALTY CARE OFFERINGS.
