OUR GOAL IS TO PROMOTE ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION THROUGH EDUCATION, POLICY DEVELOPMENT, COMMUNITY AWARENESS, AND LEGAL ACTION. OUR GUIDING PRINCIPLE IS THAT EVERYONE, REGARDLESS OF RACE OR INCOME, IS ENTITLED TO LIVE IN A CLEAN ENVIRONMENT.
TEJAS IS DEDICATED TO PROVIDING COMMUNITY MEMBERS WITH THE TOOLS NECESSARY TO CREATE SUSTAINABLE, ENVIRONMENTALLY HEALTHY COMMUNITIES BY EDUCATING INDIVIDUALS ON HEALTH CONCERNS AND IMPLICATIONS ARISING FROM ENVIRONMENT.
Furr High School partnership with TEJAS - Furr High School is the first environmental justice school in the nation that focuses on tackling social and environmental justice in and outside of the classroom. TEJAS serves as core partner that helps anchors students to real world problem solving through Toxic Tours that serve as an introduction to outdoor classrooom, the City of Houston, Teachers and TEJAS. TEJAS co-teach place-based learning experiences that align to their academic goals.
This year the Environmental Justice Leadership Forum was hosted by Houston in collaboration with We Act. We had over 40 environmental and climate justice organizations gathered to buildpower and platforms for environmental justice and frontline communities across the country.
Diego Loredo, a youth from Houston, Texas represented TEJAS on a panel at the National Environmental Justice Convening held June 2019 in Washington, DC. TEJAS sent a delegation of four to Washington, DC.
