Organizations Filed Purposes:
The mission of the organization is to provide a dwelling and sanctuary for members of a monastic community dedicated to cultivating the Gospel of Salvation.
Our 2020 accomplishments included: - Nativity Monastery exists to assist those women who are called to a life of prayer and celibacy in service to God and their neighbor and to fulfill that calling in a pastoral setting away from the secular world;- The Monastery also serves Orthodox and non-Orthodox persons who seek spiritual guidance, and a place of respite and prayer. To this end, the Retreat Center hosts periodic day-long retreats and is capable of housing up to ten women for longer retreats. On most Saturday mornings, the public can attend Divine Liturgy in the Chapel, followed by luncheon in the Retreat Center;- Nativity Monastery also manages St. Xenia's Cemetery on the monastery grounds, where Orthodox Christians and their families can be buried according to the precepts and traditions of the Orthodox Christian Church. The nuns typically assist atthe grave site and provide comfort to the grieving. The deceased are remembered by name at the Divine Liturgy on Saturdays and at memorial services throughout the year;- The primary function of the community is to pray and to worship God daily. The nuns are open to prayer requests from Orthodox and non-Orthodox alike;- Restrictions due to COVID curtailed many of the monastery's activities in 2020. However, the community was able to host one public retreat before restrictions were imposed. Cemetery operations were not affected, other than limits on attendance at burials. Upgrading of the retreat center kitchen began;- Other minor facility improvements were made. Regular maintenance continued.As restrictions were lifted in Texas and the Archbishop permitted, more pilgrims visited the monastery for services and hospitality.
