Preparing: We trian volunteers as facilitators through our Basic Peer Specialist/Facilitator Training Program. We assist in recruiting volunteers to attend the Military Veteran Peer Network Basic Training Course and the Veteran Court Mentor Training programs. We recruit volunteers to attend our Basic Peer Specialist/Facilitator Training Course. The course is 40 house plus an online webinar, and homework totaling approximately 52 hours in training. The course includes hands on practical experience in conducting peer support groups and providing one-on-one peer support. We provide resources and technical support to those we train and those who remain from those we have previously trained. We are available for questions and support with much needed materials when requested.
Caring - We assist Veterans, Dependents and Surviving Spouses with assistance, including financial assistance based on our limited resources. This assistance includes providing a trained Resource Manager/Rehabilitation Counselor to help our target market get the benefits they earned by direct referrals. It also includes providing direct client services for basic needs assistance on a case-by-case basis to our target market, depending on the donations and grants that we have available. We have paid rent, mortgage, late fees, deposits, home repairs, car repairs/payments, utilities (sometimes deposits when required to get service restored or connected). We continue to add to our comprehensive list of community resource available, and help our people with the process required for them to access these other resources. We work closely with other agencies that include Bell County Human Services (HELP) Center, Hill Country Community Action, City of Killeen (CDBG and Home Program) CenterPoint, Families in Crisis, VA Homeless Program, Central Counties Services, and many others. Operation Resilient Families teaches family communication skills after deployment/redeployment. We provide Self Care, Stress and Anger Managements Programs. We are the fiscal sponsor for the annual Que4Kids that helps with Child Abuse Prevention
Sharing - We conduct local support group meetings in Killeen, Copperas Cove, Gatesville, Belton, and Temple. We have a volunteer counselor who provides counseling and chemical dependency support. We provide mentors for our Bell County Vet Court and the Magistrate Court on Fort Hood. We outreach to Veterans, Dependents and Surviving Spouses to provide one-on-one peer support, to help them with Resources that help needy Veterans, to refer them for Mental Health issues and to support those who are justice involved.
