Organizations Filed Purposes: TO CREATE A VILLAGE WHERE INDIVIDUALS WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES CAN LIVE, LEARN, WORK, WORSHIP, AND ACHIEVE THEIR FULL POTENTIAL. DAY PROGRAMS ARE CURRENTLY OFFERED IN PREPARATION FOR A RESIDENTIAL COMMUNITY.

REACH HIGH AND DREAM BIG EDUCATIONAL AND PRE-VOCATIONAL DAY PROGRAMS ARE FOR STUDENTS WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES AGES 18 AND ABOVE WHO ARE NO LONGER IN SCHOOL. THE DISTINCTION BETWEEN THE TWO PROGRAMS IS THE LEVEL OF NEED OF PARTICIPANTS. DREAM BIG STUDENTS REQUIRE MORE INDIVIDUALIZED ATTENTION AND A LOWER STUDENT/TEACHER RATIO WHILE REACH HIGH STUDENTS OPERATE MORE INDEPENDENTLY. BOTH ARE YEAR-ROUND PROGRAMS CONDUCTED MONDAY THROUGH THURSDAY. THESE PROGRAMS REINFORCE SKILLS LEARNED IN SCHOOL (SUCH AS READING AND MATH) WHILE INCORPORATING SOCIAL SKILLS, ART, PHYSICAL FITNESS, AND PRE-VOCATIONAL TRAINING. STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN REGULAR FIELD TRIPS WHICH ALLOW THEM TO HAVE COMMUNITY-BASED INSTRUCTION TO GENERALIZE THE SKILLS THEY HAVE LEARNED. THE ENVIRONMENT AT HIGH POINT VILLAGE STRESSES TEAMWORK AND POSITIVE INTERACTIONS WITH PEERS, TEACHERS, VOLUNTEERS, AND GUESTS.

MUSIC THERAPY SERVICES ARE AVAILABLE WITH A BOARD-CERTIFIED THERAPIST ON STAFF AT HIGH POINT VILLAGE. MUSIC THERAPY IS THE CLINICAL AND EVIDENCE- BASED USE OF MUSIC INTERVENTION TO ACCOMPLISH INDIVIDUALIZED GOALS WITHIN THE FOLLOWING DOMAINS: PHYSICAL, SOCIAL, COMMUNICATION, COGNITIVE, AND EMOTIONAL. HIGH POINT VILLAGE OFFERS INDIVIDUAL AND GROUP SESSIONS AT VARIOUS TIMES DURING THE DAY AND EVENING FOR THE CONVENIENCE OF THOSE WHO ARE ALREADY AT HIGH POINT PARTICIPATING IN OTHER PROGRAMS AS WELL AS FOR THOSE WHO COME TO HIGH POINT ONLY FOR MUSIC THERAPY. THERE ARE MANY INDIVIDUAL SUCCESSES REPORTED BY PARTICIPANTS AND FAMILIES AS WELL AS THE THERAPIST.

ADDITIONAL PROGRAMS INCLUDE SUMMER CAMPS AND SPECIAL OLYMPICS TEAM ACTIVITIES. THERE WERE FOUR SUMMER CAMPS DURING 2019, THREE DAY CAMPS AND ONE OVERNIGHT CAMP. ELEMENTARY CAMP HOSTED TEN VILLAGERS WHO HAD COMPLETED GRADES 3 - 7 AND INCLUDED MUSIC AND MOVEMENT, CRAFTS, GAMES, AND SPECIAL GUESTS FROM THE COMMUNITY. ART CAMP AND COOKING CAMP WERE ONE WEEK EACH AND WERE FILLED TO CAPACITY AND VERY POPULAR WITH CAMPERS IN GRADES 8 AND OVER. FOR THE FIRST TIME IN HIGH POINT VILLAGE HISTORY, THERE WAS AN OVERNIGHT CAMP AT A POPULAR NEARBY CAMP AND RETREAT CENTER. OVER A WEEKEND, 22 CAMPERS AGES 18 AND OVER ALONG WITH 9 TRAINED STAFF PARTICIPATED IN TRADITIONAL CAMP ACTIVITIES SUCH AS SWIMMING, BOATING, HIKING, ARCHERY, AND A ROPES ADVENTURE COURSE. THE SUCCESS OF THIS CAMP WILL LEAD TO SIMILAR EXPERIENCES FOR HIGH POINT IN THE FUTURE. ALSO IN 2019, THERE WERE 48 SPECIAL OLYMPICS ATHLETES REPRESENTING HIGH POINT VILLAGE IN BASKETBALL, GOLF, BOWLING, AND TRACK AND FIELD. IN JUNE, BASKETBALL TEAMS COMPETED IN THE STATE GAMES IN DFW AND BROUGHT HOME SEVERAL MEDALS AND LASTING MEMORIES.
