Wesley Foundation at Texas Tech is a non-profit campus ministry dedicated to raising up generations of dynamic Christians, through missions, internships, community outreach and religious classes and training.
International Mission to the country of Haiti Since 2010, the Wesley Foundation has led mission trips to Haiti. Over 175 students participated on the trips. While in Haiti, we interact with anywhere between 400 and 600 people. Out main purpose is to serve the people that live there and help out in any way possible. We have hosted medical clinics, youth conferences, educational seminars and childrens vacation bible schools. We have also taken on several construction projects ranging from building an orphanage to digging trenches for the foundation of a building. We also work with the children at the orphanage that we helped to build. We travel to several different villages in the Northwest part of Haiti. Many of them are very remote and can only be reached by boat. This mission trip is one of our primary discipleship tools that we have at the Wesley Foundation.
Discipleship Program We have an intensive discipleship program that is designed to connect with students as the enter their year and walk with them as they progress throughout college. We have a well designed Freshley ministry that is for freshmen at the Wesley. It centers around community, bible study and prayer. There are weekly small groups, studies and fellowship for the students involved with Freshley. We also a ministry called Bathos that focuses on students that are sophomores and above. We have a three year course of study that we rotate through. This way, whenever someone joins Bathos they will be receive all of the material over the next 3 years. Of course this works ideally with students that follow the traditional plan and are in school 4 years. Bathos is comprised of life groups, studies, leadership team and ministry opportunities. Participants in the Discipleship program ranges from 100-250. The of students in the program is directly related to the number interns and staff members we have. The focus is our mission to raise up a generation of Christians.
Internship Program Since the early 1980s the Wesley Foundation has a had a very active intern program. We have both full time interns are students that have recently graduated and have decided to join our Intern Academy. The intern academy would be very similar to a supervised ministry class in graduate school or seminary. The interns are instructed in various topics and given homework and reading assignments. They are also empowered to lead certain areas of the ministry. The interns range from 1-15 per year depending on the quality and numbers of applicants. The student intern program is very similar to the full time program but back dramatically. We find that the student academy is a great way to empower students and let them learn if vocational ministry might be something that they need to pursue further. The number of student interns range from 8-12 per year.
