THE MISSION OF FAMILY PROMISE OF MIDLAND, TEXAS IS TO END HOMELESSNESS, ONE FAMILY AT A TIME.
FAMILY PROMISE OF MIDLAND HAS SEVENTEEN CHURCH CONGREGATIONS WHICH SUPPORT OUR PROGRAMS, SIXTEEN OF WHICH HOST OUR FAMILIES THAT ARE IN THE MIDLAND INTERFAITH HOSPITALITY NETWORK (MIHN). EACH OF THOSE CONGREGATIONS HOST UP TO FOUR FAMILIES OVERNIGHT FOR A WEEK AT A TIME TWO-FOUR TIMES A YEAR. A FULL-TIME CASE MANAGER WORKS WITH ALL OF OUR FAMILIES TO MOVE THEM TOWARD SELF-SUFFICIENCY AND INDEPENDENCE.THE FAMILIES FORWARD TRANSITIONAL HOUSING PROGRAM IS A COLLABORATION WITH UNITED WAY OF MIDLAND TO PROVIDE TRANSITIONAL HOUSING AND SUPPORT TO FAMILIES WORKING TO BUILD A STRONG FOUNDATION FOR SELF-SUFFICIENCY AND INDEPENDENCE.THANKS TO THE SUPPORT OF LOCAL FOUNDATIONS, LOCAL CONGREGATIONS, LOCAL BUSINESSES AND THE ENTIRE PHILANTHROPIC COMMUNITY OF WHICH WE LIVE, WE ARE ABLE TO MEET THE NEEDS OF MANY FAMILIES. WE HAVE SO MANY GIVING INDIVIDUALS IN OUR COMMUNITY THAT SUPPORT OUR MISSION OF ENDING HOMELESSNESS, ONE FAMILY AT A TIME.
THE FAMILIES FORWARD TRANSITIONAL HOUSING PROGRAM IS A COLLABORATION WITH UNITED WAY OF MIDLAND TO PROVIDE TRANSITIONAL HOUSING TO FAMILIES MAKING THE TRANSITION TOWARD PERMANENCY. THIS PROGRAM WORKS WITH FAMILIES THAT HAVE PARTICIPATED IN THE MIDLAND INTERFAITH HOSPITALITY NETWORK AND ARE IN NEED OF CONTINUED RENTAL SUBSIDY, ADDITIONAL SUPPORT, AND CASE MANAGEMENT SERVICES. THE MISSION OF FAMILIES FORWARD IS TO EQUIP FAMILIES TO BECOME SELF-SUFFICIENT AND INDEPENDENT.WE OPERATE THREE DUPLEXES WITH FIVE UNITS OF THREE BEDROOM/THREE BATHS AND ONE UNIT WITH TWO BEDROOMS/TWO BATHS. GUEST FAMILIES PAY A MONTHLY PROGRAM FEE THAT ASSISTS IN THE COSTS OF PROVIDED SERVICES. ALL UTILITIES ARE PAID BY FAMILY PROMISE OF MIDLAND. ALSO, INCLUDED IS CASE MANAGEMENT AND FREE CHILDCARE FOR ALL FAMILIES, ENABLING THE ADULTS TO WORK FULL-TIME, GO TO SCHOOL FULL-TIME, OR A COMBINATION OF BOTH. FAMILIES MAY STAY IN THE FAMILIES FORWARD PROGRAM FOR UP TO TWO YEARS. WHILE IN THE PROGRAM, FAMILIES WORK DILIGENTLY IN REDUCING THEIR DEBT, INCREASING THEIR SAVINGS, AND INCREASING THEIR EMPLOYABILITY FOR LONG TERM GAIN. FAMILIES ARE REQUIRED TO SAVE 20% OF THEIR EARNED INCOME AND ATTEND MONTHLY PARENT TRAININGS.
THE MIDLAND INTERFAITH HOSPITALITY NETWORK (MIHN) IS A COLLABORATION WITH CHURCH CONGREGATIONS WITHIN MIDLAND HELPING FAMILIES WHO ARE FACING HOMELESSNESS. MIHN USES EXISTING COMMUNITY RESOURCES TO PROVIDE COMPREHENSIVE SERVICES TO FAMILIES EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS. THERE ARE SEVENTEEN CHURCH CONGREGATIONS THAT SUPPORT FAMILY PROMISE OF MIDLAND. THESE CONGREGATIONS OPEN THEIR DOORS, ON A ROTATING BASIS, TO PROVIDE ACCOMMODATIONS, MEALS, AND EQUALLY IMPORTANT, HOSPITALITY, FOR UP TO FOUR FAMILIES FOR ONE WEEK, TWO-FOUR TIMES A YEAR.WE CAN ACCOMMODATE UP TO FOUR FAMILIES AT ONE TIME (FOURTEEN PEOPLE TOTAL). ALL OF THE FAMILIES STAY AT THE SAME CONGREGATION FOR A WEEK AT A TIME, ONLY OVER NIGHT FROM APPROXIMATELY 6:00 PM UNTIL 6:15 AM. DURING THE DAY, THE FAMILIES RETURN TO OUR DAY CENTER TO GET READY FOR WORK AND/OR SCHOOL. EACH SUNDAY, ALL OF THE FAMILIES MOVE TO A NEW CONGREGATION TO BEGIN ANOTHER WEEK'S STAY. FAMILIES STORE THEIR BELONGINGS AT THE DAY CENTER, ONLY CARRYING OVERNIGHT NECESSITIES TO THE CONGREGATION. ALL ADULTS ARE REQUIRED TO WORK OR GO TO SCHOOL FULL-TIME, OR A COMBINATION OF BOTH. FREE CHILDCARE IS PROVIDED FOR VERY YOUNG CHILDREN, AS WELL AS AFTERSCHOOL CARE FOR SCHOOL-AGED CHILDREN. OUR DAY CENTER ACTS AS "HOME" FOR THE FAMILIES WHEN NOT IN SCHOOL OR AT WORK.WHILE IN THE PROGRAM, THE FAMILIES ARE REQUIRED TO WORK WITH A CASE MANAGER, MOVING TOWARD SELF-SUFFICIENCY AND INDEPENDENCE. ALL FAMILIES WORK ON REDUCING DEBT AND ARE REQUIRED TO SAVE 80% OF THEIR EARNED INCOME IN THEIR OWN BANK ACCOUNTS. PARENTS ARE ALSO REQUIRED TO ATTEND MONTHLY TRAININGS, INCLUDING FINANCIAL LITERACY TRAINING. THE LENGTH OF THE PROGRAM DEPENDS UPON THE NEED OF EACH FAMILY. TYPICALLY, FAMILIES ARE IN THE PROGRAM ON AVERAGE FOR EIGHTY-ONE DAYS.
