CONFERENCES, NETWORKS AND LEARNING EXPERIENCES - CONFERENCES, INSTITUTES, AND E-LEARNING SUPPORT MEMBERS EFFORTS TO IMPROVE ORGANIZATIONAL EFFECTIVENESS, EDUCATOR COMPETENCY, AND STUDENT SUCCESS. LEARNING FORWARD'S 2018 ANNUAL CONFERENCE ATTRACTED 3,327 EDUCATORS WHO, OVER THE 5 DAYS OF THE CONFERENCE, ATTENDED OVER 300 SESSIONS, GAINED NEW KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS, ENGAGED IN MEANINGFUL CONVERSATIONS, NETWORKING, AND ACQUIRING RESOURCES AND TOOLS TO HELP THEM IN THEIR ORGANIZATION AND SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT EFFORTS. LEARNING FORWARDS 2018 INSTITUTES WERE OFFERED DURING JULY 2018 AND ATTRACTED A TOTAL OF 259 EDUCATORS WHO ENGAGED IN INTENSIVE LEARNING EXPERIENCES. ACADEMY - SINCE 1991 THERE HAVE BEEN 36 ACADEMY CLASSES WITH MORE THAN 1600 ACADEMY GRADUATE MEMBERS. EACH CLASS HAS HELD 12-FACE TO FACE SESSIONS TOTALING 96 HOURS PER CLASS EQUALING 3,456 HOURS OF PROFESSIONAL LEARNING WITHIN THE ACADEMY PROGRAM. EACH YEAR A NEW ACADEMY CLASS GRADUATES.
GRANT-FUNDED PROJECTS - GRANT FUNDED PROJECTS TARGET PARTICULAR INITIATIVES FOCUSED ON ADVANCING THE FIELD OF PROFESSIONAL LEARNING IMPROVING ORGANIZATION AND INDIVIDUAL EFFECTIVENESS, AND PRODUCING HIGHER LEVELS OF PERFORMANCE FOR BOTH EDUCATORS AND STUDENTS. IN FY 2019, LEARNING FORWARD RECEIVED GRANT FUNDS OF $2,148,471, EARNED GRANT FUNDS OF $1,698,759 AND HAS UNEARNED GRANT FUNDS OF $1,237,089 AS OF JUNE 30, 2019. A THE BILL & MELINDA GATES FOUNDATION/COMMUNITIES FOUNDATION PROVIDED $183,971 FOR LEARNING FORWARD TO HELP IMPLEMENT A CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT FRAMEWORK AMONG A NETWORK OF MIDDLE SCHOOLS. B THE LEARNING POLICY INSTITUTE AND THE LEARNING FIRST ALLIANCE PROVIDED $10,000 TO LEARNING FORWARD TO DISSEMINATE INFORMATION THROUGH INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL CHANNELS ABOUT THE INTERSECTION OF PROFESSIONAL LEARNING AND DEEPER LEARNING. C THE WALLACE FOUNDATION PROVIDED $350,000 TO LEARNING FORWARD TO COVER A TWO-YEAR PERIOD AND TO HELP DISSEMINATE WALLACE EDUCATIONAL LEADERSHIP KNOWLEDGE AND RESOURCES THROUGH PUBLICATIONS AND THE ANNUAL CONFERENCE. THESE RESOURCES WILL BE USED TO HELP SCHOOLS, DISTRICTS, AND STATES IMPROVE LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT. D THE WILLIAM & FLORA HEWLETT FOUNDATION PROVIDED A GRANT FOR GENERAL OPERATIONS $150,000; AN EQUITY GRANT FOR $52,500 AND A GRANT FOR DEVELOPING A SOLUTION FOR IMPROVING LEARNING SYSTEMS IN THE AMOUNT OF $75,000. THE CHARLES & LYNN SCHUSTERMAN FAMILY FOUNDATION PROVIDED A GRANT FOR FEDERAL POLICY AND ADVOCACY TOTALING $275,000 AND A $377,000 GRANT TO SUPPORT LEARNING FORWARD?S ?PIVOT? TO CURRICULUM-GROUNDED PROFESSIONAL LEARNING. THE CARNEGIE CORPORATION OF NEW YORK FOUNDATION (CCNY) PROVIDED $800,000 FOR STATE LEVEL POLICYWORK. THE WILLIAM & FLORA HEWLETT FOUNDATION PROVIDED A TRANSITION GRANT TO ASSIST WITH THE SEARCH, NEGOTIATION AND CONTRACTING WITH A NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR TO REPLACE THE RETIRING EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR.
Learning Forward Senior Consultants spent 710 days in the field in FY19, working with clients that included 3 State Departments of Education, 6 state or regional education associations, 7 educational support organizations, and 39 school systems. In addition, Learning Forward assisted 22 school systems in evaluating the quality of their professional learning by administering the Standards Assessment Inventory in 566 schools.
