Salute the Kids recognizes and supports military connected children through camping adventures. Salute the Kids believes it is important to recognize military children for their survice to our country and support them by providing a free, fun-filled camping experience that will change their livs in a positive way, help them develope coping skills, increase resiliency and self-confidence while embracing the beauty and healing components of nature.
Salute the Kids hosts camps for children of members of the military.
Salute the Kids mission to support and recognize military connected kids through camping adventures was a success in 2019. During the 2019 camp season, Salute the Kids hosted one camp at Camp Cascades in Yelm, WA. Salute the Kids provided camp programming for 27 military families, including 81 military children (ages 1-18), 50 United States service members and their spouses and 14 volunteers, 8 of which were United States veterans. Camp programming reconnected families and allowed military children to develop coping and resiliency skills. Attending families included United States Army, Navy, Coast Guard and Marine families stationed at Joint Base Lewis-McChord and within the state of Washington and Oregon. A majority of the attending families included a service member either deployed within the last 18 months or preparing to deploy within the next 18 months of their camp date. Four families experienced a deployment during camp. Salute the Kids continues to see the need for camp programming among the military community and Salute the Kids will continue to work diligently to meet those needs.
