Organizations Filed Purposes: The mission of disABILITYsa is to educate, advance, and engage individuals with disabilities by sharing information, creating opportunities, and strengthening the organizations that serve them. disABILITYsa connects children and adults with disabilities to information about local resources and programs that promote independence and inclusion where we all live, work and play.

disABILITYsa's mission is to educate, advance, and engage individuals with disabilities by sharing information, creating opportunities, and strengthening the organizations that serve them. With a vision to make San Antonio the #1 community where individuals with disabilities want to live, work, and play; disABILITYsa connects children and adults with all types of disabilities, and their support networks, to information about local resources, programs and opportunities that promote independence and inclusion. disABILITYsa works to 1) EDUCATE: Share information, resources, ideas and support between people with all types of disabilities and their service organizations. 2) ADVANCE: Advance public attitudes, awareness, respect and consideration for the success of individuals with disabilities. 3) ENGAGE: Engage individuals with disabilities as active participants in their communities. And, 4) STRENGTHEN: Strengthen organizations that provide services which benefit people with disabilities.

Program service accomplishments: The ENGAGEMENT programs at disABILITYsa include the Fiesta Especial(R) programs consisting of a Royal Court Leadership & Life Skills Development Program, Celebration Day Community-based Instruction Program, Parade, and Royal Court Alumni, as well as the Service Leadership programs. In 2019, disABILITYsa served 10 young men and women with disabilities through the Leadership Development program. The Fiesta Especial Royal Court program creates visibility for the leadership and contributions individuals with disabilities are making in our local community while providing a platform for leadership and service development for children and adults with all types of disabilities (ages 12+). The Celebration Day, a community-based instruction program brings over 200 special education programs and adult day habilitation programs, comprised of 5,338 children and adults with disabilities and their support networks, to actively participate in a city-wide celebration of heritage, culture, and diversity in a fun, safe, and inclusive way, and over 475 children and adults with disabilities and their support networks in the Fiesta Especial parade. Another 20 adults with disabilities engaged in self-advocacy efforts and advocacy for others through leadership and role modeling activities in the Service & Leadership program.

Program service accomplishments: The EDUCATION programs at disABILITYsa include an online resource, social media platforms, and AccessAbility fest programs which operate to connect children and adults with disabilities with the resources in the community by sharing information. disABILITYsa's website is a dynamic resource tool for information on current issues, local events and programs, as well as job opportunities, volunteer opportunities, and more. The AccessAbility fest is a gateway to information, resources, and opportunities for individuals with disabilities and their support networks. Attendance ranges from 4,000 to 4,500 and captures the attention of both individuals with and without disabilities.

Program service accomplishments: The ADVANCEMENT programs at disABILITYsa include community conversations, the abilitySTRONG Parade, and an effort to create visibility for disability-friendly initiatives and businesses. The Conversation 360 programs serve approximately 30-50 individuals during each session bringing together both people with and without disabilities to discuss the issues impacting individuals living with a disability in our local community and discovering ways each participant can take a role in effecting change. The abilitySTRONG Parade is San Antonio's disability pride celebration expressing the belief that disability is a natural and beautiful part of the human diversity in which people living with a disability can take pride. This annual program brings the local community together to advance public attitudes toward disability and even change the way with think about and define disability. It is a celebration, highlighting the beauty, ability, and strengths that individuals with disabilities bring to our local community.
