MEALS ON WHEELS PROVIDES HOT, HEALTHY AND DELICIOUS LUNCH TIME MEALS TO SENIORS AND THOSE WHO HAVE DIFFICULTY LEAVING THEIR HOMES AND ARE UNABLE TO PREPARE A MEAL FOR THEMSELVES. IN FY20, DEDICATED VOLUNTEERS TRAVELED ACROSS THE CITY TO DELIVER OVER 1,137,000 HOT MEALS AND ALSO PROVIDED DAILY SAFETY CHECKS AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR SOCIALIZATION. VOLUNTEERS OFFERED ADDITIONAL SOCIALIZATION AND FRIENDSHIP TO 78 CLIENTS THROUGH THE FRIENDLY VISITOR PROGRAM, AND THE ANIMEALS' VOLUNTEERS DELIVERED OVER 20,000 POUNDS OF PET FOOD TO 367 SENIORS WHO WOULD OTHERWISE RISK THEIR OWN HEALTH TO SHARE THEIR MEALS WITH THEIR ANIMAL COMPANIONS. THE COMFY CASAS PROGRAM IMPROVED LIVING CONDITIONS BY PROVIDING FANS, AIR CONDITIONERS AND HEATERS TO 560 SENIORS DURING THE SUMMER AND WINTER MONTHS.
GRACE PLACE ALZHEIMER'S ACTIVITY CENTERS PROVIDE SERVICES TO SENIORS WITH ALZHEIMER'S AND OTHER DEMENTIA RELATED DISEASES. IN FY20, STAFF TRAINED IN DEMENTIA CARE PROVIDED SAFE, NURTURING, ABILITY-FOCUSED ACTIVITIES AND ENCOURAGEMENT TO 284 PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS. RESPITE, ON-GOING EDUCATION AND SUPPORT ARE PROVIDED TO CAREGIVERS THROUGH THIS PROGRAM. THE GOAL IS TO ALLEVIATE STRESS BY PROVIDING AFFORDABLE AND SAFE CARE SO CLIENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES HAVE HEALTHIER, MORE BALANCED LIVES. GRACE PLACE PROGRAMS ALLOW SENIORS TO STAY IN THEIR OWN HOME OR THEIR FAMILY MEMBERS' HOME AS LONG AS POSSIBLE, PREVENTING THE DECLINE IN HEALTH AND HIGH COSTS THAT COME WITH LIVING IN A CARE FACILITY.
