Harvest Moon Regatta amateur sailing race which generated significant local and national attention to the recreational use of Galveston and Corpus Christi Bays as well as the Gulf of Mexico between Galveston and Port Aransas, Texas. Participating were 131 boats, an estimated 525 sailors, and 150 volunteers.
Eight other various amateur sailing races held throughout the year drawing attention to the recreational benefit of Galveston and Trinity Bays. The races drew a total of 317 boats and an estimated 915 sailors. Volunteers averaged 20 per race.
