LEARNING ENVIRONMENT SERVING THE CHILDREN, FAMILIES, AND EDUCATORS OF EAST TEXAS THROUGH EXHIBITS AT THE MUSEUM WHICH IGNITE CURIOSITY IN YOUNG MINDS THROUGH FUN, HANDS-ON EXPLORATION.
EXHIBIT RENOVATIONS - 2019 saw the first summer exhibit created fully in-house called "Expedition Egypt" wich highlighted the science, culture and modern-day influence of the ancient Eqyptians. Close to to 3,000 visitors saw the Eqypt exhibit. In addition, our outreach progam was expanded through the purhcase of a new portable planetarioum system. Discovery Dome joins the DSP Science Safari and DSP Mobile STEM lab for a total of three outreach programs. We also brought in the Amaze Your Brain traveling exhibit for spring break 2019 which is an interactive introduction into neuroscience. There were over 64,000 vistors to the museum in 2019 with about 34,600 being children under the age of 13.
MINI MAKER FAIRE - The seventh annual Tyler Mini Maker Faire was hosted byDiscovery Science Place in April 2019. With over 1000 attendees the event was agreat success. The event featured over 40 Makers of all kinds including a professional blacksmith, high school robotics clubs, university chemistry clubs, woodworking,a drone use company and more. Visitors were able to participate in a wide variety of hands-on making" experiences including a kid's build project 'airplane' kit and 3D printers. They ranged from high-tech cutting edge to skills and tools from antiquity.
