SUPPORT OF THE WACO SYMPHONY AND RELATED EVENTS

CONCERTS - IN LINE WITH THE WACO SYMPHONY'S MISSION STATEMENT OF BRINGING CLASSICAL MUSIC TO THE LOCAL COMMUNITY, THE WACO SYMPHONY PRESENTED FOUR CLASSICAL CONCERTS IN ITS 58TH YEAR, THE 2019-2020 SEASON WHICH INCLUDED GUEST ARTISTS VIOLINIST ELISSA LEE KOLIJONEN, PIANIST DREW PETERSEN, AND SAXOPONIST O. BRANFORD MARSALIS. ONE OF THE CONCERTS WAS THE PRODUCTION OF THE NUTCRACKER.THE WSA PROVIDES AN INTERNSHIP FOR COLLEGE STUDENTS MAJORING IN MUSIC PERFORMANCE, WHICH AFFORDS THEM AN OPPORTUNITY TO PERFORM WITH THE WACO SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA. IN ADDITION TO THE OPPORTUNITY TO PERFORM WITH A PROFESSIONAL ORCHESTRA THROUGH THE INTERNSHIP, STUDENTS ARE AWARDED A SCHOLARSHIP FOR THEIR COLLEGE EDUCATION.

BELLES AND BRASS - THE WACO SYMPHONY ASSOCIATION'S LONG-STANDING BELLE AND BRASS PROGRAM ACCEPTS HIGH SCHOOL SOPHOMORE AND JUNIOR GIRLS AND JUNIOR BOYS IN AN ETIQUETTE TRAINING AND CLASSICAL MUSIC APPRECIATION PROGRAM WHICH NOT ONLY INTRODUCES YOUNG STUDENTS TO THE WORLD OF CLASSICAL MUSIC BUT ALSO ENCOURAGES THEIR PARENTS TO ATTEND ALL SYMPHONY CONCERT PERFORMANCES.

STUDENT INSTRUMENT AND WACO YOUTH ORCHESTRA- THE WACO SYMPHONY ASSOCIATION PARTICIPATES IN TWO MIDDLE SCHOOL MUSIC PARTNERSHIPS (LAKE AIR MONTESSORI BAND AND TENNYSON MIDDLE SCHOOL STRING ORCHESTRA) BY SUPPLYING MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS TO STUDENTS ENGAGED IN THESE PURSUITS. THE ASSOCIATION ALSO PAYS TUITION FOR SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL AREA STUDENTS PARTICIPATING IN THE WACO YOUTH ORCHESTRA, ORGANIZED AND HEADQUARTERED IN MIDWAY HIGH SCHOOL.
