WE OFFER HOPE TO ORPHANED AND VULNERABLE CHILDREN BY NURTURING AND CARING FOR THEM AS IF THEY WERE OUR OWN. WE FOCUS OUR WORK IN ZAMBIA, AFRICA WHERE WE PARTNER WITH LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS TO BRING HOPE TO THE MOST VULNERABLE WOMEN AND CHILDREN IN THESE COMMUNITIES. WE BELIEVE IN CREATING LOCALLY LED, LOVE INSPIRED PROGRAMS FOCUSED ON LONG-TERM, SUSTAINABLE OUTCOMES. WE VALUE LOCAL WISDOM AND RECOGNIZE THE IMPORTANCE OF IDENTIFYING THE NEEDS OF OUR ZAMBIAN COMMUNITY BY SEEKING INPUT AND DIRECTION FROM OUR LUSAKA STAFF. WE PROVIDE FOOD, HOUSING, AND EDUCATION FOR CHILDREN WHILE ALSO OFFERING ADULT CAREGIVERS LITERACY AND BUSINESS SKILLS TRAINING. WE BELIEVE THAT LOVE IS AT THE CENTER OF ALL THAT WE DO AND IS ESSENTIAL TO PROVIDING SUSTAINABLE, INDIVIDUALIZED CARE.
CHILDRENS RESOURCE CENTER - ZAMBIA (CRC): THE CRC IS A TRANSITION CENTER WHERE THE CHILDREN LIVE UNTIL WE CAN FIND THEM A SAFE HOME WITH RELATIVES OR UNTIL THEY TURN 18 YEARS OLD. STARTING AS A SMALL PROGRAM WITH 14 CHILDREN WHO WERE RESCUED OFF THE STREETS, THE CRC HAS SINCE GROWN TO SUPPORT MORE THAN 319 CHILDREN WHO HAVE BEEN BROUGHT IN FROM SITUATIONS OF ABUSE, ABANDONMENT, TRAFFICKING, OR THE DEATH OF PARENTS. WHILE IN OUR CARE, WE FOCUS ON PROVIDING HEALTHY FAMILY-CENTERED RELATIONSHIPS AND ENCOURAGE EACH CHILD TO DISCOVER A LOVE FOR EDUCATION AND COMMUNITY SERVICE, AND TO DEVELOP THEIR HOBBIES AND TALENTS. DURING FYE 2020, WE CARED FOR 94 CHILDREN IN RESIDENCE PROVIDING EDUCATION, FOOD, ALL HEALTH- RELATED NEEDS; INCLUDING HIV TREATMENT FOR 16 OF THE CHILDREN, GRIEF COUNSELING, ACCESS TO CARING ADULTS, SKILLS TRAINING, AND RECREATION THERAPY.
EDUCATION: ON OUR LUSAKA PROPERTY, WE OPERATE A SCHOOLTHE CAROL ZULU PRIMARY SCHOOLFOR 528 CHILDREN FROM THE SURROUNDING COMMUNITY. OUR PRIMARY SCHOOL IS PROUD TO HAVE A 100% PASS RATE ON THE SEVENTH GRADE NATIONAL EXAM, WHERE THE NATIONAL AVERAGE IS CLOSER TO 65%. THIS SCHOOL PROVIDES EDUCATION THROUGH 7TH GRADE, AFTER WHICH A NUMBER OF OUR STUDENTS CONTINUE ON TO OUR 17 TO SELF-RELIANCE PROGRAM WHICH PROVIDES HIGHER EDUCATION AND VOCATIONAL TRAINING SPONSORSHIPS. DURING FYE 2020, THERE WERE 63 YOUTH IN THIS PROGRAM, 9 OF WHICH WERE IN FOSTER CARE PLACEMENTS. THESE PROGRAMS AIM TO SUPPORT THE DREAMS OF EACH CHILD AND INSPIRE HOPE FOR THEIR FUTURES.
SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE PROJECT: TO MEET THE GROWING NEEDS OF OUR PROGRAMS AND ENSURE CONTINUED PROGRAMMING DURING NATURAL DISASTERS AND CRISES (SUCH AS DROUGHT OR PANDEMIC), WE STARTED A SUSTAINABLE, AGRICULTURAL PROJECT DURING FYE 2020. WE LAUNCHED A GOAT PROJECT, EXPANDED OUR CHICKEN CO-OP PROJECT, AND BEGAN RAISING DUCKS TO INCREASE OUR FOOD PRODUCTION. ADDITIONALLY, WE HAVE IRRIGATED 21 ACRES, AND HAVE HIRED A FARM MANAGER TO OVERSEE OUR EXPANDED AGRICULTURAL EFFORTS. THIS PROJECT ALSO PROVIDES OPPORTUNITY FOR VOCATIONAL AND SKILLS TRAINING FOR THE CHILDREN LIVING IN OUR CARE. ADDITIONALLY, WE EMPOWERED 300+ WOMEN FROM THE SURROUNDING COMMUNITY IN SEWING AND BUSINESS SKILL TRAINING. WE EMPLOYED 44 ZAMBIANS DURING FYE 2020 WHO RUN ALL PROGRAMMING IN ZAMBIAPROVIDING INCOME TO THE FAMILIES OF THE 44 EMPLOYEES AND ENSURING OUR PROGRAMS ARE LED BY LOCAL WISDOM.
