DUE TO THE EFFECTS OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC, THE SIGNIFICANT FUNDING SUPPORT THAT HAS BEEN TRADITIONALLY PROVIDED FOR THE ANNUAL ASTRONOMY AND GEOLOGY FESTIVALS WAS NOT NEEDED DUE TO CANCELATION OF ALL FESTIVALS. HOWEVER, SUBSTANTIAL FUNDING WAS PROVIDED TO COMPLETE A DETAILED ENGINEERING AND GEOTECHNICAL EVALUATION OF THE NAVAJO LOOP TRAIL NETWORK TO HELP IN BETTER DESIGN OF RETAINING WALLS AND TRAIL DRAINAGE. IN ADDITION, FUNDING WAS GIVEN TO COVER THE COST OF AN ONGOING GEOLOGIC MAPPING AND HAZARD EVALUATION STUDY BEING CONDUCTED BY THE UTAH GEOLOGICAL SURVEY. THIS TWO-YEAR PROJECT WILL CULMINATE IN 2021 AND HELP BRYCE CANYON NATIONAL PARK BETTER MANAGE GEOLOGIC RESOURCES AND PROVIDE GREATER SAFETY FOR VISITORS ACCESSING TRAILS IN THE PARK. DONATED MONIES ALSO COVERED THE COST OF RETROFITTING THE BRYCE CANYON VISITOR CENTER LOBBY AND SALES AREA WITH CDC RECOMMENDED PLEXIGLASS BARRIERS, SIGNAGE AND NEW DISPLAY FABRICATION TO SAFELY ACCOMMODATE STAFF AND VISITOR USE.
