Organizations Filed Purposes:
To create a well-informed and stigma-free commmunity with access to mental health services for all residents of Summit County, Utah.
BRINGING AWARENESS TO MENTAL ILLNESS - Promoting and supporting a well-informed community gives people the power to seek help and reduces stigma surrounding mental illness. Stigma acts as a barrier to seeking help, and therefore affects overall health and quality of life. The stigma that comes with mental illness is all too frequently the result of misinformation and lack of understanding. The earlier someone can effectively address a mental health issue or illness, the greater the likelihood for successful outcomes. CONNECT Summit County has dedicated its time and resources to reducing stigma through educational programming and services that raise awareness about the importance of mental health. CONNECT Summit County has been providing this educational programming for Mental May Health Awareness Month since 2016. CONNECT now provides year-round educational programming and events about mental health.
IMPROVING ACCESS TO MENTAL HEALTH RESOURCES - Improving access to mental health resources is core to CONNECT Summit Countys mission of creating a well-informed and stigma-free community with access to mental health services for all. This means the necessary mental health services must be in place; people must be able to easily find these services; the services must be high quality; and the services must be affordable and culturally competent. One of CONNECTs signature successes is the Mental Health Resource Directory. Launched at the end of 2018, the directory features a listing of local mental health providers, supports, and resources in Summit County. From April 1, 2019, to March 31, 2020, the directory hosted 16,099 unique visitors (an average of 48 per day) and 2,012 page views (an average of 87 per day). We continuously update the directory so that it reflects the most relevant and current information.
EMPOWERING AND INSPIRING ACTION - By responding to the voice of the people of Summit County to increase advocacy efforts and influence mental health public policy, CONNECT Summit County has addressed unmet mental health needs. CONNECT Summit County actively engages community partners, brand ambassadors, and volunteers to attend public meetings to champion mental health policy and participates in ongoing advocacy to citizens and local government for improved mental health services. CONNECT Summit County played a key role in the formation of the Summit County Mental Wellness Alliance, which brings together Summit County organizations both governmental and private to address mental health and substance abuse issues. Because of the efforts of the Summit County Mental Wellness Alliance, the University of Utah became the contracted provider for substance abuse and mental health services for Summit County in September 2019.
