Organizations Filed Purposes: RACE SWAMI EXISTS TO EMPOWER YOUTH TO BE CHAMPIONS IN AND OUT OF THE WATER FOR A LIFETIME. WE PROVIDE OPPORTUNITIES IN SWIMMING FOR UNDERSERVED YOUTH FROM THE WEST SIDE OF SALT LAKE CITY. OUT GOAL IS TO DEVELOP OUR PARTICIPANTS PHYSICAL AND MENTAL HEALTH IN A FUN AND UNIQUE ENVIRONMENT, DEEPLY ROOTED IN SEFLT-DISCIPLINE, TEAMWORK, AND WHOLE-BODY AWAREMENSS. AT THE SAME, WE VALUE AND WELCOME THE RICH CULTURAL KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCES OF THE YOUTH AND COMMUNITIES WE SERVE. RACE SWAMI IS A 501 (C) (3) NON PROFIT CLUB SERVICE THE ROSE PARK, GLENDALE AND NEIGHBORING COMMUNITIES OF SALT LAKE CITY'S WEST SIDE.

JANUARY QUAC (QUEER UTAH AQUATIC CLUB) HELD THEIR THIRD CONSECUTIVE NEW YEAR'S DAY FUNDRAISER ON BEHALF OF RACE SWAMI, RAISING NEARLY 3,000. THE PROCEEDS WENT TOWARDS PURCHASING NEW TRAINING EQUIPMENT FOR THE SWAMIS, INCLUDING FINS, SNORKELS, AND TRAINING SUITS. SWAMI'S 2018 ANNUAL APPEAL GARNERED NEARLY 18,000 FOR THE PROGRAM. THE MONEY WAS APPLIED TOWARDS SWIMMER SCHOLARSHIPS, POOL RENTALS AT THREE LOCATIONS, AND MEET FEES FOR THE 2019 SEASON. FEBRUARY SWAMI'S HIGH SCHOOL SWIMMERS COMPETED IN THEIR RESPECTIVE HIGH SCHOOL STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS WITH SENIOR EMILY DIXON (WEST HIGH) HEADLINING THE CREW. SHE FINISHED 4TH OVERALL IN THE 100-YARD FLY AS WELL AS 9TH IN THE 200 IM. EMILY HELPED HER GIRLS' TEAM FINISH 4TH OVERALL IN THE 5A DIVISION. EMILY'S TIME IN THE 100 FLY WAS GOOD ENOUGH TO QUALIFY HER FOR THE SPEEDO SECTIONALS MEET IN PHOENIX, ARIZONA, WHERE SHE SWAM THE 100 FLY, 200 FLY, AND 200 IM. MARCH RACE SWAMI'S 14 & UNDER ATHLETES ATTENDED THE UTAH AGE GROUP STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS IN BOUNTIFUL, WHERE THEY PLACED 10TH OVERALL. THE TOP TEAM SCORERS WERE CAROLINE COOPER, ANGELA ROBERTS, MIGUEL FREGOSO, AND MADELEINE STOLZ. APRIL A RECORD FIVE SWAMIS QUALIFIED FOR THE PRESTIGIOUS FAR WESTERNS CHAMPIONSHIPS, HELD ANNUALLY IN APRIL IN SANTA CLARA, CA. MAY COACH MATT FINNIGAN WAS INVITED TO SPEAK AT THE USA SWIMMING SWIM-BIZ CONFERENCE IN COLORADO SPRINGS. A CROWD OF 400 ATTENDEES LISTENED TO RACE SWAMI'S COMPELLING JOURNEY IN BUILDING A NATIONALLY RENOWNED SWIMMING AND ENRICHMENT PROGRAM SERVING UNDERREPRESENTED YOUTH. JUNE THE SWAMIS HELD THEIR ANNUAL SWIM-A-THON TO RAISE MONEY FOR THE PROGRAM. THIS YEAR'S PROJECT DIRECTED PROCEEDS TO A SUMMER TEAM TRAVEL MEET IN FORT COLLINS, COLORADO. JUNE & JULY THE SWAMIS HEADED TO COLORADO FOR THE FIRST TIME FOR A TEAM TRAVEL MEET AND COMPETED IN THE ANNUAL FORT COLLINS BONANZA, FACING SIXTEEN OTHER PROGRAMS FROM FOUR STATES. THE SWAMIS FINISHED 2ND PLACE OVERALL TO SERVE MORE CHILDREN IN SALT LAKE'S WEST SIDE COMMUNITIES, SWAMI OFFERED SUMMER SWIMMING LESSONS FOR ALL AGES AT THE GRANGER POOL SITE, AS WELL AS A YEAR-ROUND "SWAMI PREP" GROUP FOR KIDS NOT QUITE PREPARED FOR THE COMPETITIVE SWIMMING ENVIRONMENT. FOR THE FIFTH CONSECUTIVE YEAR, SWAMI PARTNERED WITH THE POPLAR GROVE-BASED NEIGHBORHOOD HOUSE TO OFFER FREE SWIMMING LESSONS TO MORE THAN 60 CHILDREN. THE PROGRAM WAS AN 8-WEEK COURSE IN JUNE AND JULY. THE PROGRAM WAS MADE POSSIBLE BY THE GENEROUS SUPPORT FROM THE MCCARTHEY FAMILY FOUNDATION. AUGUST SWAMIS CLOSED OUT THE SUMMER LONG COURSE SEASON BY SETTING MORE THAN 40 NEW TEAM RECORDS AND QUALIFYING FOR MORE REGIONAL AND NATIONAL MEETS THAN EVER BEFORE. THE TEAM CELEBRATED THEIR ACCOMPLISHMENTS BY HOSTING A "WEEK OF SWAMI" WITH A SERIES OF FUN DAILY ACTIVITIES AND AN AWARDS NIGHT TO HONOR THE SWAMIS. SEPTEMBER USA SWIMMING NAMED RACE SWAMI ONE OF THE TOP 20 OUTREACH PROGRAMS IN THE NATION WITH LESS THAN 100 PROGRAMS NATIONALLY THAT FOCUS ON SERVING LOW INCOME YOUTH (35% OR MORE OF THE ROSTER), RACE SWAMI WAS DESCRIBED AS RARE DUE TO OFFERING ITS MEMBERS EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCES OUTSIDE OF SWIMMING OCTOBER JEPS FOUNDATION COMMITTED ITS SUPPORT TO RACE SWAMI FOR THE EIGHTH CONSECUTIVE YEAR, WHILE THE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF UTAH (ANOTHER LONGTIME SUPPORTER) PRODUCED A FOCUS PIECE ON RACE SWAMI AND THE IMPACT THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS HAVE MADE TO THE SWIMMING AND ENRICHMENT PROGRAM. NOVEMBER EAST HIGH VS WEST HIGH GIRLS- DUAL MEET FEATURED THE MOST SWAMIS COMPETING IN A HIGH SCHOOL MEET TO DATE. SWAMIS WON 7 OF 8 EVENTS.
