Organizations Filed Purposes:
The mission of the Rural Utah Project is to empower underrepresented voters in rural Utah by providing them with tools, training, and knowledge by means of voter registration, education, and issue advocacy on important topics that affect disenfranchised and underrepresented voters.
RUP, Inc. engages primarily in voter registration, education, and issue advocacy.
RUP ran an extensive voter registration program in San Juan County, Utah, registering 1,615 mostly-Indigenous voters. During the course of this program, RUP hired 10 part-time staff to do this work, and identified and helped solve a flaw in San Juan Countys voter registration procedures where Indigenous voters would sometimes be registered into incorrect voting precincts due to a lack of physical addresses. RUP also ran a large nonpartisan get-out-the-vote program which led to the highest Indigenous voter participation ever recorded in San Juan County. RUP also recruited a team of volunteer attorneys to monitor polling places and ensure election procedures were followed and polling places operated smoothly.
