PROVIDE EDUCATION TO THE PUBLIC CONCERNING MANAGEMENT, DEVELOPMENT, CULTURAL SIGNIFICANCE AND THE USE OF NATURAL AND CULTURAL LANDS AND RESOURCES OF THE NATIVE AMERICANS IN UTAH AND THE FOUR CORNERS REGION.

IN 2019, UTAH DINE BIKEYAH (UDB) ACTIVELY ENGAGED AND MOBILIZING GRASSROOTS NATIVE AMERICAN COMMUNITIES AND ELDERS AROUND LOCAL COMMUNITY PLANNING, POLICY, AND PUBLIC EDUCATION. WE ADVOCATE FOR THE INCLUSION OF TRADITIONAL VOICES IN THE MANAGEMENT OF THE BEARS EARS LANDSCAPE AND ARE WORKING TO RESTORE PROTECTION ACROSS 1.9 MILLION ACRES. UDB'S THREE BIGGEST PROGRAMS IN 2019 WERE 1) COMMUNICATIONS AIMED AT ELEVATING INDIGENOUS VOICES AND EDUCATING/MOBILIZING THE PUBLIC TO RESTORE BEARS EARS NATIONAL MONUMENT AND ADDRESS ECONOMIC AND INFRASTRUCTURE NEEDS IN NATIVE COMMUNITIES, 2) TRADITIONAL ARTS WHICH WE VIEW AS A CATALYST FOR ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT, AND 3) ADVANCING TRADITIONAL FOODWAYS IN OUR COMMUNITIES AND ON THE LAND INCLUDING HUNTING, FARMING, AND WILD FOOD COLLECTION.EVERY MONTH UDB PROVIDES APPROXIMATELY 1200 LOCAL NATIVE AMERICAN CITIZENS WITH UPDATES ON OUR PROGRAMMATIC WORK, BEARS EARS LITIGATION AND MANAGEMENT PLANNING THROUGH SOCIAL MEDIA (20,000+ FOLLOWERS), ENEWSLETTERS (9,000 SUBSCRIBERS), AND IN PERSON COMMUNITY MTGS (300-500ATTENDEES.) WE ANNOUNCE UPCOMING EVENTS AND DISTRIBUTE INFORMATIONAL MATERIALS TO KEEP CITIZENS BETTER INFORMED AND ENGAGED. OUR MISSION IS AROUND HEALING THE LAND AND ALL PEOPLE, WHICH WE DO BY ENSURING THAT NATIVE AMERICAN COMMUNITIES HAVE A VOICE IN DETERMINING THE FUTURE. IN 2019, OUR MAJOR COMMUNITY EVENTS INCLUDED PRAYER RUNS (X3), INTER-TRIBAL SUMMER GATHERING ATTENDED BY 800+ PEOPLE, TRADITIONAL FOODS DINNER, AND WE ATTENDED MANY EVENTS, PARADES, AND CONFERENCES. IN TOTAL APPROXIMATELY 1,500 PEOPLE ATTENDED THESE UDB HOSTED EVENTS IN 2019. ADDITIONAL COMMUNITY LISTENING SESSIONS, ELDER INTERVIEWS, AND CULTURAL SENSITIVITY TRAININGS WERE CONDUCTED. COLLECTIVELY, THESE EFFORTS ARE AIMED AT ADVANCING THE VISION AND PRIORITIES OF THE LOCAL PEOPLE AND ELDERS WE SERVE.
