Lead Poisoing Prevention: UPHE is stiving to raise awareness of the necessity of having children tested for lead poisoning at ages 1 and 2. UPHE has recently worked with the Utah Lead Coalition to decrease the definition of elevated blood lead reflecting the CDCs recommendation of greater than or equal to 5 micrograms per deciliter, a huge step in helping limit the impact of lead poisoning in Utah. UPHE is working with Salt Lake Countys Lead Safe Housing program to help decrease the impact of lead poisoning on Utah children by offering free lead testing and free home lead remediation to qualifying families. Due to a HUD and CDC grant, we are able to repaint the interiors and exteriors of homes, replace windows and replace carpets for free if we detect sources of lead in the home.

Wood smoke campaign: program description - an outreach and educationcampaign to alert the public and air quality regulators on the healthdangers of wood smoke during heating season. Implemented in mid-2014and will continue through 2018 and beyond.Description of program objectives - 1) To inform and educate thepublic on the health dangers of wood smoke, specifically as it is tiedto the use of wood stoves and fireplaces for heating. 2) Help buildpublic support for tighter restrictions on wood stoves and fireplacesduring Utahs winter inversion seasons when air quality isparticularly hazardous.
