YOUTHLINC EXISTS TO CREATE LIFETIME HUMANITARIANS THROUGH LOCAL AND INTERNATIONAL SERVICE.
LOCAL AND INTERNATIONAL SERVICE PROGRAM FOR UTAH'S YOUTH. STUDENTS BECOME RELIED UPON VOLUNTEERS IN THEIR OWN COMMUNITIES, ATTEND MONTHLY PLANNING MEETINGS WHERE THEY ARE MENTORED TO TAKE LEADERSHIP ROLES AT THE INTERNATIONAL SERVICE SITE, AND SPEND TWO WEEKS OF THEIR SUMMER VACATION SERVING IN SMALL IMPOVERISHED VILLAGES IN A NUMBER OF DEVELOPING COUNTRIES. IN RETURN FOR THESE COMMITMENTS, YOUTHLINC STUDENTS EARN A SPONSORSHIP THAT PAYS A PORTION OF THEIR INTERNATIONAL SERVICE TRIP COSTS. IN 2019, THE SERVICE YEAR INCLUDED 429 PARTICIPANTS, INCLUDING A SATELLITE TEAMS SOUTHERN UTAH. IN 2019 YOUTHLINC ALSO PARTNERED WITH DISTRICT 5420 ROTARY TO RUN A ROTARY-THEMED SERVICE YEAR TRIP TO FIJI.
YOUNG HUMANITARIAN AWARD PROGRAM. THE PROGRAM RECOGNIZES UTAH RESIDENTS WHO ARE HIGH SCHOOL OR UNDERGRADUATE COLLEGE STUDENTS WHO EXCEL IN THEIR EFFORTS TO GIVE BACK TO THEIR COMMUNITIES. THE OVERALL WINNER OF THE AWARD RECEIVES A MONETARY AWARD TO BE USED FOR TUITION FOR EITHER UNDERGRADUATE OR GRADUATE STUDIES AT THE COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY OF THE STUDENT'S CHOICE. WE ARE INDEBTED TO THE GEORGE S. AND DOLORES DOR ECCLES FOUNDATION, ROBERT D. KENT JR. TRUST, AND SHAUN AND ANNETTE MICHEL FOR MAKING THIS AWARD POSSIBLE. THIS YEAR WE INCREASED THE AMOUNT OF SCHOLARSHIP MONEY FROM 13,500 TO 22,000 AND ANY STUDENTS ATTENDING THE UNIVERSITY OF UTAH HAD THEIR SCHOLARSHIP FROM YOUTHLINC MATCHED WITH FUNDS FROM THE A RAY OLPIN STUDENT UNION. ADDITIONALLY, WE DIVIDED THE AWARD INTO TWO TRACKS: HIGH SCHOOL AND COLLEGE. A WINNER FOR EACH TRACK WAS AWARDED 5,000, A RUNNER UP FROM EACH TRACK WAS AWARDED 3,000, AND THE REMAINING SIX FINALISTS EACH RECEIVED 1,000 EACH.
